Devops Lead Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a devops lead in Hawaii?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a devops lead in Hawaii, so the path runs through education and demonstrated experience. Most Hawaii employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, followed by progressive engineering roles leading to a lead position. Certifications from AWS, Google Cloud, or HashiCorp carry real weight in the Hawaii market, and a DoD security clearance significantly broadens access to the large federal and defense contractor sector on Oahu.
How much do devops leads make in Hawaii?
Devops leads in Hawaii earn a median of about $124,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,690 for the lowest 10% to over $238,930 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire devops leads in Hawaii?
Employers hiring devops leads in Hawaii right now include Goldbelt, Speechify, and GHD, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's concentration of federal agencies, defense contractors, and state government technology divisions means many of the most consistent openings come from organizations supporting military and public-sector infrastructure rather than commercial tech startups.
Which Hawaii cities have the most devops lead jobs?
Honolulu, Hawaii, and ‘Aiea account for the largest share of devops lead openings in Hawaii. Honolulu dominates because it hosts the island chain's largest concentration of federal agencies, defense contractors, and established enterprise employers, while Kapolei and Pearl City benefit from proximity to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, which anchors significant civilian and contractor technology hiring across Oahu.
Are there remote devops lead jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 22% of devops lead openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how naturally the role translates to distributed work. The parts of the job most likely to stay fully remote are cloud infrastructure management, pipeline automation, and monitoring, while roles tied to classified federal networks or on-premises data centers in Hawaii typically require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a devops lead in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is landing a junior systems administrator or cloud engineer role with a Hawaii federal contractor or state agency, then building toward a lead title from the inside. The Hawaii state government's Department of Accounting and General Services regularly posts entry-level IT infrastructure roles, and large contractors like Booz Allen Hamilton run associate or early-career programs on Oahu. Earning an AWS or Google Cloud associate certification before applying gives candidates a concrete edge when competing for those first roles.
Where can I find and apply to devops lead jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to devops lead jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
