Staff Devops Engineer Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff devops engineer in Hawaii?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a staff devops engineer in Hawaii. The standard path is a bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems followed by progressive engineering experience, with cloud certifications from AWS, Google, or Microsoft strengthening candidacy. Hawaii's federal contracting sector makes a DoD security clearance a meaningful differentiator, and candidates who pursue it early stand out with the defense and government IT employers that dominate Honolulu's tech market.
How much do staff devops engineers make in Hawaii?
Staff devops engineers in Hawaii earn a median of about $124,040 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,690 for the lowest 10% to over $238,930 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire staff devops engineers in Hawaii?
Employers hiring staff devops engineers in Hawaii right now include Kaiser Permanente, CVS Health, and Alpha, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's hiring is heavily shaped by defense IT integrators and telecommunications firms with long-term government and commercial contracts across the islands.
Which Hawaii cities have the most staff devops engineer jobs?
Honolulu, Wailuku, and Lihue account for the largest share of staff devops engineer openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the bulk of demand as the state's primary hub for federal agencies, defense contractors, and large financial and hospitality technology operations, while Pearl City and Kapolei draw hiring from employers near Pearl Harbor's military and government installations.
Are there remote staff devops engineer jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, and more than most fields, since devops work is largely infrastructure and code rather than on-site physical presence. About 0% of staff devops engineer openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly cloud and pipeline work can be done off-site. Roles tied to classified federal systems or on-premise data centers in Hawaii are the most likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a staff devops engineer in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a junior systems administrator, cloud support, or IT operations role with one of Hawaii's large federal contractors or telecommunications providers, then building toward devops responsibilities on the job. Employers like Booz Allen Hamilton and Hawaiian Telcom bring on associate-level engineers and provide internal paths to infrastructure and automation work. An AWS Cloud Practitioner or CompTIA Cloud+ certification alongside a portfolio of personal or open-source projects signals readiness even without a long resume.
Where can I find and apply to staff devops engineer jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to staff devops engineer jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Honolulu and the broader state. Search for roles that match your experience level and focus area, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
