DESCRIPTION
Amazon's Integrated Design Solutions (IDS) team is looking for Architectural Designer I to join a fast-paced, high-impact team delivering the composite designs that power Amazon's fulfillment network. This is a hands-on role for someone who is sharp, detail-oriented, and ready to produce accurate 2D/3D design work in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
You'll work closely with experienced design and program management partners, contributing directly to composite delivery across a diverse portfolio of building types. If you're technically strong, a quick learner, and energized by work that has real operational impact — this is a great place to grow.
Key job responsibilities
- Produce accurate 2D/3D composite designs using AutoCAD and Revit in support of fulfillment network projects
- Incorporate vendor-provided MHE designs and module placements into BIM models per established standards
- Support clash detection and under-the-roof design validation to ensure composite accuracy before construction
- Maintain organized, audit-ready files in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) following team data governance standards
- Collaborate with design and program management partners to meet project milestones and delivery timelines
- Flag design issues or discrepancies early and communicate clearly with the team to resolve them quickly
- Apply feedback and iterate quickly to meet quality standards under tight deadlines
A day in the life
Most of your day is spent in the tools — AutoCAD, Revit, and ACC — producing and refining composite designs. You'll receive project briefs and design inputs from your team, translate them into accurate layouts, and work through reviews with your manager or design partners to get them across the finish line.
You'll ask good questions, catch things early, and take ownership of your deliverables. When something isn't right, you say so. When a deadline is close, you focus. This is a role where doing the work well — consistently and accurately — is what matters most.
About the team
The Integrated Design Solutions (IDS) team is Amazon's in-house design and scan organization, delivering the composite products that power network expansion across 17+ business units. We sit at the intersection of operational design, BIM data governance, and scan technology with direct impact on how Amazon builds, launches, and scales its fulfillment network.
Our team supports a diverse portfolio of building types including mixed-use fulfillment, pharmacy, Hazmat, Air, and Leo operations. We drive end-to-end composite delivery, clash detection, and under-the-roof design readiness ensuring design visibility is in place before breaking ground. We deploy scan technology to maintain accurate as-built composite catalogues, support Facility Twins efforts, and deliver measurable operational savings at scale.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM), as well as scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, or similar)
- Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
- Experience using one or more of the following technologies (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, SketchUp, KeyShot, etc.) to deliver high quality models and designs
- Experience completing complex tasks quickly with little to no guidance and react with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround, or experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of driving process improvements experience
- 3+ years of stakeholder management experience
- Experience building processes, project management, and schedules
- 3+ years of driving end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership experience

Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees in architecture are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 visa specialty occupation purposes. Include your ATAR transcript and any AACA accreditation to help HR teams confirm eligibility without guesswork.
Target firms with active federal project portfolios
Architecture firms holding federal or state government contracts are accustomed to sponsoring work visas because their procurement rules already require E-Verify enrollment. This makes them faster to navigate the LCA filing step than smaller residential studios.
Frame your portfolio around U.S. building codes
Employers hesitate on sponsorship when they're unsure your drawings translate to their jurisdiction. Annotate at least two portfolio projects to show awareness of IBC or ADA compliance requirements, even if your Australian experience used NCC and DDA standards.
Negotiate who files the LCA before signing an offer
The DOL-certified Labor Condition Application must be filed by your employer before you can apply at the consulate. Confirm in writing during offer negotiations that the employer will initiate the LCA promptly, as delays here push back your entire start date.
Use Migrate Mate to handle your filing paperwork
Once you have a signed offer letter, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage the LCA submission, DS-160 preparation, and consulate appointment coordination. This removes the administrative burden from both you and an employer unfamiliar with the E-3 process.
Search specifically for E-3 sponsorship openings
Many architecture firms that would sponsor an E-3 don't advertise it because the process is less familiar than H-1B visa. Search by role title and filter for Australian nationals or treaty visa openings using Migrate Mate to surface employers already set up to sponsor.
E-3 Visa Architectural Designer: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Architectural Designer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can filter by job title and see which employers are set up to sponsor Australian nationals, rather than sifting through general listings where E-3 is rarely mentioned. It's the most direct way to connect your architecture background with firms ready to move forward.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Architectural Designer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Architectural design requires a bachelor's degree in architecture or a closely related design field as a standard entry requirement, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. Your employer will confirm this when filing the Labor Condition Application with the DOL. Roles that only require a general degree or where a degree is preferred but not required may face more scrutiny.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Architectural Designers?
The E-3 is exclusively for Australian citizens and has no lottery, no annual cap, and a faster path to approval than the H-1B. H-1B petitions are subject to an oversubscribed lottery each April, meaning you could wait a year or not be selected at all. For Australians, the E-3 is a more reliable and repeatable path, with two-year intervals and unlimited renewals.
Can I start working in the U.S. while my E-3 application is processing?
No. The E-3 is a consular-processed visa, meaning you attend an interview at a U.S. consulate in Australia and receive your visa stamp before traveling. Unlike some change-of-status applications, there's no work authorization period while you wait. Your employer should file the LCA well before your intended start date to avoid delays at the consulate scheduling stage.
