DESCRIPTION
As a Principal Technical Business Developer, you will serve as the senior individual contributor and subject matter expert for capital equipment sourcing, contract negotiations, and supplier management. You will own the end-to-end procurement lifecycle — from supplier identification and RFQ execution through contract award and delivery — for high-value equipment, automation systems, tooling, and more.
Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain, you will be the technical procurement authority for the organization. You will partner closely with partner teams across the organization to ensure material readiness and targets are met as the project progresses. You will set the standard for how procurement operates and guide sourcing managers and buyers through thought leadership and process design.
Key job responsibilities
- CAPEX Sourcing Strategy and Portfolio Management: Own end-to-end capital equipment sourcing across multiple advanced product portfolios, including supplier identification, market analysis, RFQ/RFP execution, total cost of ownership modeling, and award decisions across equipment, automation systems, tooling, and infrastructure. Define and implement sourcing approaches that optimize cost efficiency while advancing technical capabilities.
- Contract Negotiations: Lead complex negotiations with OEMs, equipment manufacturers, and service providers — structuring commercial agreements covering pricing, payment terms, warranties, SLAs, and long-lead-time components, and managing the full contract lifecycle including amendments, renewals, and dispute resolution.
- Procurement Playbook Development: Develop and own sourcing frameworks, standard operating procedures, and operating mechanisms that scale with the organization — influencing and mentoring sourcing managers and buyers through technical guidance and thought leadership.
- Supplier Performance Management: Establish and manage supplier performance programs, including scorecards, SLAs, and regular business reviews. Identify and mitigate supply chain risks through dual-sourcing strategies, should-cost models, and contingency planning.
- Budget Management: Manage CAPEX budgets with cost controls, variance tracking, and change management governance. Support material planning, inventory strategy, and spare parts availability. Drive large-scale cost optimization initiatives with demonstrated results.
- Cross-Functional Leadership and Partnership: Align equipment procurement timelines with site milestones and schedules in close partnership with cross-functional teams across the organization. Serve as the procurement subject matter expert in cross-functional planning forums. Influence senior leadership on strategic direction and investment decisions related to the supply chain.

Frame your Australian credentials correctly
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 visa purposes. Pair it with a credential evaluation letter to head off any employer hesitation before it starts.
Target companies with prior LCA history
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to find employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for business development or sales roles before. Prior LCA filings signal a sponsor who knows the process.
Clarify the specialty occupation case early
Business Developer titles sometimes raise USCIS scrutiny because the role can sound general. Confirm with your prospective employer that the job description specifies degree requirements in business, marketing, or a closely related field.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Once you have an offer, the LCA and DS-160 filings move fast. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so nothing stalls your start date.
Negotiate the offer before the LCA is filed
The LCA locks in your job title, work location, and wage level with DOL. Any material change after certification requires a new filing, so resolve title, location, and remote-work terms with your employer before the process starts.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at the consulate
E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa, so consular officers may ask about your ties to Australia. Have clear, specific answers about property, family, or professional commitments ready before your appointment.
E-3 Visa Business Developer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Business Developer jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to find Business Developer roles at employers with active E-3 sponsorship history. Filtering by visa type removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the process. Most successful E-3 candidates target employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for comparable roles in the past, since they already understand the DOL filing requirements.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Business Developer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It can, but the job description matters. USCIS requires that the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business, marketing, or international commerce. Generic business development roles that accept any degree field are vulnerable to a specialty occupation challenge, so the offer letter should specify the required discipline clearly.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Business Developer roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can apply any time of year once you have a job offer. The H-1B visa requires surviving a random selection process with roughly a one-in-four chance. For an Australian Business Developer with a qualifying offer, the E-3 is a far more predictable path to starting work in the U.S.
Can I change employers while on an E-3 in a Business Developer role?
Yes, but you need a new LCA certified by DOL and a new visa stamp before starting with the new employer. The E-3 is employer-specific, so you can't simply transfer it. If you're already in the U.S., your current E-3 status remains valid until its end date, giving you time to line up the new filing before switching.
