Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Informatics Specialist
Align your credentials to U.S. specialty occupation standards
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees in health informatics or computer science are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees. Get a credential evaluation before applying so employers don't stall your offer over degree recognition questions.
Target health systems running Epic or Cerner implementations
Large hospital networks and academic medical centers mid-implementation consistently hire Clinical Informatics Specialists and have established HR processes for E-3 sponsorship. Focus your search on organizations with active go-live projects or optimization phases.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified sponsoring employers
Searching for E-3 sponsorship manually wastes time on employers who've never filed. Use Migrate Mate to filter Clinical Informatics Specialist roles by employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history so every application targets a realistic opportunity.
Clarify the LCA filing timeline before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before you can apply for the E-3 visa. Ask HR to confirm they've done this before or can start immediately, since LCA certification typically takes seven business days.
Frame your HL7 and FHIR experience in the job offer letter
The consular officer assessing your specialty occupation needs to see that your role requires specific technical knowledge. Make sure your offer letter explicitly references clinical data standards, EHR configuration, or workflow analysis rather than generic IT duties.
Manage your visa timeline around two-year renewal cycles
The E-3 is issued in two-year increments with no cap on renewals. File for renewal through Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service at least 90 days before your current visa expires to avoid gaps in work authorization between hospital contract periods.

Find Clinical Informatics Specialist JobsClinical Informatics Specialist E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Clinical Informatics Specialist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Clinical Informatics Specialist roles filtered by employers with verified E-3 and LCA filing history. Most general job boards don't surface sponsorship status, so you can spend weeks applying to employers who have never sponsored a work visa. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where sponsorship is already established, which significantly shortens your job search timeline.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Clinical Informatics Specialist role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Clinical Informatics Specialist positions require at least a bachelor's degree in health informatics, biomedical informatics, computer science, or a closely related field, which meets the specialty occupation threshold for the E-3. Roles centered on EHR implementation, clinical workflow optimization, or health data standards like HL7 and FHIR are well-established as qualifying positions at U.S. consulates.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Clinical Informatics Specialists?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has a 10,500-slot annual allocation that has never been exhausted, meaning there's no lottery and no wait for a cap opening. The H-1B requires entering an annual lottery with roughly a 25 percent selection rate. For Australian informatics professionals, the E-3 is a direct path that doesn't depend on lottery luck, and it can be renewed indefinitely in two-year increments.
Can I change employers or health systems while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but you can't simply transfer the visa. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need to apply for a new E-3 visa stamp, either at a U.S. consulate in Australia or through a change of status filing if you're already in the United States. Start the process before your last day at your current employer to avoid a gap in authorized work status.
