Verify your licensure transfers across state lines
U.S. clinical supervision roles typically require state-issued licensure such as LCSW, LMFT, or LPC. Check whether your Australian credentials qualify for endorsement or whether you need supervised hours in the target state before the employer can file your LCA.
Target nonprofit and community health employers first
Federally Qualified Health Centers, nonprofits, and government-contracted behavioral health agencies file LCAs regularly and are accustomed to sponsoring clinical staff on work visas. Their HR teams understand the E-3 process better than most private practices.
Frame your supervision credentials in U.S. terminology
Australian clinical supervision frameworks differ from U.S. models. Translate your hours, client caseload, and supervisee counts into formats that match DOL specialty occupation criteria, so hiring managers and attorneys recognize your qualifications without guesswork.
Confirm your job offer letter specifies degree requirements
The E-3 requires the role to be a specialty occupation, meaning the offer letter must state that a relevant bachelor's degree or higher is required. A letter saying a degree is preferred, not required, can sink your visa application at the consulate.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to coordinate your LCA and consulate prep
Your employer files the LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage that timeline, prepare your DS-160, and organize supporting documents so nothing delays your start date.
Search for roles using Migrate Mate to filter by E-3 sponsorship history
Most job boards don't flag E-3 sponsorship. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for employers with active E-3 filing history in clinical and social services, so you spend time on roles where sponsorship is already established.

Find Clinical Supervisor JobsClinical Supervisor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Clinical Supervisor jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find Clinical Supervisor roles where employers have a history of E-3 sponsorship. Most general job boards don't surface visa sponsorship status, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where the employer has never filed an LCA. Migrate Mate filters by sponsorship history, so your search starts with employers already set up to hire Australian professionals.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Clinical Supervisor role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position formally requires a relevant bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field. The DOL and consular officers look at whether the role requires theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge. Positions that accept any bachelor's degree, or that treat the degree as a preference rather than a requirement, may not meet the specialty occupation standard.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Clinical Supervisor roles?
The E-3 has a significant structural advantage: there's no lottery. H-1B has an annual cap of 85,000 and a random selection process, meaning you could be qualified and still not get selected. The E-3 allocates up to 10,500 visas per year exclusively for Australian nationals, and that cap has never been reached. For clinical professionals who have a concrete job offer, the E-3 is a direct path rather than a chance outcome.
Can I work as a Clinical Supervisor on an E-3 if my Australian license isn't recognized in the U.S.?
This is the most common complication for Australian clinical professionals. U.S. states issue their own licenses, and Australian credentials don't transfer automatically. Some states accept foreign-trained applicants for provisional licenses with additional supervised hours, while others require full re-examination. You'll need to confirm your target state's licensure board requirements before your employer can confidently file your LCA, since the job offer must accurately reflect the required credentials.
