Get your DANB credentials recognised first
U.S. dental practices expect CDA or RDA certification from the Dental Assisting National Board. Having DANB credentials before you apply removes a common employer objection and strengthens the specialty occupation argument for your E-3 visa petition.
Target multi-location dental groups over solo practices
DSOs and regional dental chains have HR teams experienced with work authorisation paperwork. Solo practitioners often lack the administrative infrastructure to file an LCA with DOL and manage the E-3 process without support.
Clarify the degree equivalency question early
Your Australian Certificate IV in Dental Assisting may not satisfy the U.S. bachelor's degree requirement on its own. A credentials evaluation from a NACES-member service can establish equivalency before you reach the offer stage and avoid last-minute delays.
Confirm state RDA licensure requirements before accepting an offer
Several states require a Registered Dental Assistant licence separate from DANB certification. California, for example, has its own RDA examination. Verify your destination state's requirements through its dental board so licensure gaps don't stall your start date.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and consulate prep
Once you have an offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the DOL labour condition application, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation end-to-end, so neither you nor your employer needs to navigate the filing process without guidance.
Ask your employer about E-Verify enrolment before signing
Some dental practices are already E-Verify participants, which simplifies onboarding after your visa is approved. Confirming this before you sign means your I-9 verification is straightforward from day one and avoids delays caused by enrolment backlogs.
E-3 Visa Registered Dental Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Registered Dental Assistant jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you can spend weeks applying to practices that have never sponsored a work visa. Migrate Mate surfaces employers already familiar with E-3 sponsorship for dental and allied health roles.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Registered Dental Assistant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It can, but the qualification depends on the specific job description and the degree requirement the employer attaches to the role. The position must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a related field. If your employer's job description requires a degree in dental assisting, health sciences, or a closely related discipline, the role can satisfy the specialty occupation standard. Roles framed as general chairside assisting with no degree requirement will not qualify.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Registered Dental Assistant roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens but has a clear practical advantage: there's no lottery. H-1B visa sponsorship for dental assistants is uncommon precisely because most applicants have only a 25 to 33 percent chance of selection in the annual lottery before any assessment of qualifications. The E-3 cap of 10,500 visas per year has never been reached, meaning a qualified Australian dental assistant with a valid job offer faces no random selection barrier.
Can I start work while my E-3 visa application is being processed?
If you're applying from Australia, you cannot begin work until you attend your consulate interview and receive your E-3 visa stamp. There's no provision to start employment while the consulate application is pending. Your employer should account for a four to eight week lead time between the DOL certifying the LCA and your consulate appointment being available, depending on the location.
