Credential your Australian PTA qualification first
U.S. employers need to see your Australian qualification mapped to a U.S. bachelor's degree standard. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved body before you apply, so your degree supports the specialty occupation requirement on the LCA.
Target healthcare networks with dedicated HR teams
Large hospital systems and outpatient rehabilitation chains are more familiar with E-3 visa paperwork than private clinics. Focus on employers who already use E-Verify, since DOL requires E-3 employers to be E-Verify-enrolled for LCA compliance.
Use Migrate Mate to run the filing process
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. Coordinating the DOL certification and consulate appointment yourself adds weeks of back-and-forth that most hiring managers aren't equipped to manage.
Address state licensure requirements before your interview
Every U.S. state requires PTAs to hold a state license before practicing. Research whether your target state accepts Australian qualifications directly or requires additional supervised hours, and tell employers you've already checked during interviews.
Negotiate your start date around LCA processing windows
DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days, but consulate appointment availability in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth can add two to six weeks. Build at least six weeks between your offer acceptance and your proposed start date.
Clarify E-3 renewal responsibility with your employer upfront
The E-3 renews every two years and requires a fresh LCA each cycle. Confirm in writing before you accept the offer that your employer will fund and manage renewals, since USCIS treats each renewal as a new filing.
E-3 Visa Physical Therapist Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Physical Therapist Assistant jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Physical Therapist Assistant roles by employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history. Many PTA positions are never advertised with explicit visa sponsorship language, so filtering by employer filing behaviour is more reliable than searching job titles with sponsorship keywords.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Physical Therapist Assistant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree or its equivalent in physical therapy, kinesiology, or a closely related field. The DOL and USCIS assess whether the degree requirement is specific to the role, not just preferred. A job posting that lists 'bachelor's preferred' rather than 'required' can create problems at the LCA stage, so confirm the employer's job description uses mandatory degree language before proceeding.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for PTA roles in the United States?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply at any time of year and start work as soon as your visa is approved. The H-1B visa is capped at 85,000 slots per year, and most applicants enter a randomised lottery with no guarantee of selection. For Australian PTAs, the E-3 is consistently the faster and more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Can I transfer my E-3 visa to a new PTA employer if I change jobs?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and support a new E-3 visa application before you start working for them. You cannot transfer the E-3 status the way an H-1B portability provision allows. If you're already in the U.S., you'll need to attend a new consular interview in Australia or apply for a change of status, so plan for a gap between roles.
