Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Commercial Specialist
Align your degree to the role
Commercial Specialist positions require a direct link between your qualification and the job duties. A business, economics, or international trade degree supports the specialty occupation requirement. A general arts degree paired with commercial experience alone may not satisfy USCIS criteria.
Target employers with active trade portfolios
Government agencies, export-focused corporations, and defence contractors regularly hire Commercial Specialists and are structured to file LCAs. Search for roles in organisations that already maintain international compliance teams, as they understand E-3 visa sponsorship obligations from the outset.
Clarify sponsorship before final interviews
Many hiring managers in commercial roles assume Australian candidates need H-1B visa sponsorship. Proactively explain the E-3 requires no lottery and costs the employer far less time and money, which often removes the hesitation before an offer is extended.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA step
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so your employer doesn't need to engage an immigration lawyer or navigate the FLAG portal independently.
Prepare a U.S.-style resume with quantified outcomes
Australian CVs typically run longer and list responsibilities rather than results. U.S. Commercial Specialist hiring panels prioritise measurable achievements. Reformat to one or two pages and lead each role with revenue generated, contracts won, or market expansion results.
Understand E-3 portability when changing roles
If your role title or duties change significantly after your E-3 is approved, your employer must file a new LCA. Switching from a commercial analyst function to a management function mid-visa period restarts the DOL certification process, so confirm scope with your employer upfront.
E-3 Visa Commercial Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Commercial Specialist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Commercial Specialist roles from employers familiar with E-3 sponsorship, filtering out positions where sponsorship isn't available. Because the E-3 requires employer-filed LCA certification through DOL rather than a lottery, many employers who would decline H-1B sponsorship will consider E-3 candidates. Searching specifically for E-3-aware employers saves significant time in your job hunt.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Commercial Specialist role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as business, economics, international trade, or finance, and the duties are specialised rather than general commercial support. Roles focused on trade compliance, government contracting, or market analysis with degree-specific requirements satisfy USCIS specialty occupation criteria. Generalist sales coordinator roles without a degree requirement are less likely to qualify.
How does the E-3 compare to H-1B for Commercial Specialist positions?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply at any point in the year once you have an offer. H-1B registration closes in March and selection is random, meaning a qualified candidate can wait a full year or longer before starting. For employers filling a Commercial Specialist role on a fixed project timeline, the E-3 is a far more reliable path to getting you on the ground quickly.
What happens to my E-3 status if my Commercial Specialist role is restructured?
If your employer reorganises and your core duties shift materially, or your job title changes to reflect a different occupational category, the original LCA may no longer accurately describe your role. DOL requires the LCA to match actual employment conditions, so a new LCA must be filed and certified before the change takes effect. Talk to your employer's HR team before accepting any role restructure to avoid a status gap.
