Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Department Supervisor
Verify your degree supports supervisory specialty occupation
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the supervisory role. A business administration or operations management degree strengthens your case; a general arts degree may require supporting evidence of specialized coursework relevant to the department you'll oversee.
Target employers with existing E-3 LCA history
DOL's public LCA disclosure data lists every employer who has filed Labor Condition Applications for E-3 workers. Filtering for supervisory or management titles tells you which companies already understand the process and won't need educating on E-3 sponsorship requirements.
Frame your management scope in the offer letter
The job offer letter must describe duties that demonstrate specialty occupation. Detail the department size, budget authority, and technical oversight you'll hold. Vague descriptions like 'manages staff' are common rejection triggers at the consulate stage.
Start the LCA before accepting a start date
Your employer can't submit the E-3 visa paperwork until DOL certifies the LCA, which takes around seven business days. Build that lead time into your start date negotiation so you're not scrambling after signing an offer. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork without delays.
Address your three-year Australian degree proactively
U.S. consular officers sometimes question whether a three-year Australian bachelor's degree meets the four-year U.S. standard. A credentials evaluation letter from a NACES-member evaluator confirming equivalency removes that objection before your interview.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions in supervisory interviews
Senior and supervisory roles attract more consular scrutiny on immigrant intent because career advancement pathways are visible. Have a clear, honest account of your reason for pursuing the role temporarily and your ties to Australia ready before your appointment.

Find Department Supervisor JobsDepartment Supervisor E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Department Supervisor jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Department Supervisor roles filtered by E-3 visa sponsorship history, so you're only seeing employers who have filed LCAs before. General job boards mix in roles from employers unfamiliar with the E-3 process, which wastes time at the offer stage when sponsorship conversations stall.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Department Supervisor role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. A supervisory position qualifies when it requires a specific bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as business administration, operations management, or a discipline tied to the department's function. Generic supervisory duties without a degree requirement won't meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard, so the job description and offer letter both need to reflect the degree connection clearly.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Department Supervisor roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, which means an eligible Australian professional can receive sponsorship at any time of year without waiting for a random selection. The H-1B has an 85,000-slot annual cap with a lottery that excludes most applicants. For a supervisory role that qualifies under specialty occupation, the E-3 is a far more predictable path because approval depends on your credentials and the employer's filing, not lottery luck.
Can I switch Department Supervisor roles on an E-3 without leaving the U.S.?
Yes, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if you travel internationally after the change. Some professionals handle the transition by timing international travel to coincide with the employer switch, obtaining the new visa stamp at an Australian consulate during the trip. You don't need to return to Australia specifically for this, but you do need a valid stamp to re-enter.
