Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Project Assistant
Frame your degree around project disciplines
E-3 visa eligibility requires your degree to match the role's specialty occupation definition. A business, engineering, or IT degree supports a Project Assistant application more clearly than a general arts degree, so lead with your most relevant field when presenting credentials to employers.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
Project Assistant roles at construction firms, consulting companies, and tech contractors regularly appear in DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway disclosure data. Employers who have filed LCAs before understand the process and are far less likely to back out after extending an offer.
Clarify E-3 versus H-1B early in interviews
Many U.S. hiring managers assume visa sponsorship means H-1B lottery risk. Tell them upfront that as an Australian citizen you qualify for the E-3, which has no lottery, no annual cap, and a faster timeline from offer to start date.
Get the LCA certified before your consulate appointment
Your employer must file and receive a certified LCA from the DOL before you can attend your visa interview. DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven working days, but delays happen. Build that buffer into your start date negotiation.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for end-to-end support
Once you have an offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA submission, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation so neither you nor your employer has to navigate the process from scratch. That reduces friction for employers new to E-3 sponsorship.
Negotiate your start date around consulate wait times
E-3 visa appointments at Australian consulates in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth fluctuate seasonally. Factor current appointment availability into your offer negotiation so your employer isn't caught by a four-week gap between your accepted offer and your first day.
E-3 Visa Project Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Project Assistant jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles that support E-3 sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards, you can search Project Assistant openings by employers with a demonstrated history of E-3 and LCA filings, which cuts down the time spent chasing employers who aren't set up to sponsor.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Project Assistant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the position is structured. A Project Assistant role qualifies when it genuinely requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field, such as engineering, business administration, or information technology. Roles where any degree or no degree would satisfy the employer's requirements typically don't meet the specialty occupation threshold. Your offer letter and job description need to reflect the degree requirement explicitly.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Project Assistant roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no numerical cap for Australian citizens, while the H-1B is subject to an 85,000-slot cap and a random selection process that limits your chances regardless of qualifications. For a Project Assistant role, the E-3 also has a shorter path from offer to start date since there's no waiting for a lottery result. The only constraint is that E-3 is exclusively available to Australian nationals.
Can I change employers while working on an E-3 as a Project Assistant?
Yes, but you need to restart the process with each new employer. Your E-3 is tied to a specific employer and LCA, so your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa before you can begin work. You don't have a grace period to work for the new employer while the application is pending, so timing your transition carefully around your consulate appointment availability matters.
