Translate your credentials for U.S. employers
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 visa purposes, but your resume should explicitly state your qualification and field. Spell out degree titles in full so hiring managers can assess specialty occupation fit without guessing.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to find companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for Project Administrator or project management roles. Prior LCA filings signal a company already understands E-3 sponsorship requirements.
Clarify the specialty occupation requirement early
Not every Project Administrator role qualifies. Job descriptions that accept any bachelor's degree, regardless of field, can fail the specialty occupation test. Confirm with the hiring manager that the role requires a degree specifically in business, project management, engineering, or a related discipline.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service after your offer
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This covers DOL certification, consulate preparation, and document review so your employer doesn't need an immigration lawyer on retainer.
Negotiate your start date around LCA processing
DOL certifies most LCAs within seven business days, but build at least three weeks into your proposed start date to allow for LCA filing, consulate appointment scheduling, and passport return. Starting this conversation before you sign avoids a rushed timeline.
Prepare a degree-to-role alignment statement
Consular officers assess whether your academic background directly supports the Project Administrator position. Draft a one-page statement connecting your degree coursework to core job duties like scope management, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination. This document isn't required but strengthens borderline cases.
E-3 Visa Project Administrator: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Project Administrator jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Project Administrator roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you end up cold-applying with no signal on sponsorship willingness. Migrate Mate surfaces roles specifically matched to E-3 eligibility, saving you from screening out dozens of postings manually.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Project Administrator role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the employer defines the role. If the job description requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business administration, project management, or engineering, it qualifies. Roles that accept any degree or substitute experience freely are harder to support. Ask the employer to confirm the degree requirement is field-specific before the LCA is filed.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Project Administrator roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian nationals and has no lottery, no annual cap, and no registration fee. H-1B visa has an 85,000-slot annual cap with a randomised selection process, meaning qualified applicants are regularly not selected. For Australians in project administration, the E-3 offers a direct path without the uncertainty of a lottery outcome.
Can I switch employers while on an E-3 as a Project Administrator?
Yes, but you need a new LCA and visa stamp or a change of status before starting with the new employer. The E-3 is employer-specific, so your current visa doesn't transfer. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL, and you'll need to attend a consulate appointment in Australia or a third country to get the updated stamp.
