Frame your Australian HR credentials correctly
Your three-year Australian bachelor's degree meets the E-3 visa education requirement. Gather your official transcripts and, if your degree title differs from U.S. norms, get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before applying.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data for companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for HR Specialist roles. Prior filings signal that the employer's legal team already understands the E-3 process and won't stall at the sponsorship conversation.
Find E-3 sponsoring HR employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters U.S. job listings specifically for E-3 visa sponsorship, so you're not sifting through roles where the employer has never sponsored an Australian professional. Search Human Resources Specialist roles directly to see who's actively hiring.
Address specialty occupation in your application materials
E-3 approval hinges on proving the HR Specialist role is a specialty occupation requiring a specific degree. Your resume and cover letter should connect your HR functions, such as workforce planning or employee relations, explicitly to your degree field.
Get the LCA filed before your interview is scheduled
The DOL must certify your Labor Condition Application before you can attend your consulate interview. Employers unfamiliar with E-3 often underestimate this step, so confirm with HR that the LCA process has started as soon as you receive a verbal offer.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Once you have a signed offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This avoids the coordination gaps that occur when the employer's general counsel handles E-3 for the first time.
E-3 Visa Human Resources Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Human Resources Specialist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces U.S. Human Resources Specialist roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have no process for sponsoring Australian professionals. Filter by role and location to see what's currently available.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an HR Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
It can, but the specific job duties matter. Roles focused on strategic workforce planning, employee relations, compensation analysis, or HR systems implementation are more defensible as specialty occupations than generalist administrative support roles. The position description needs to demonstrate that a bachelor's degree in HR, business, or a related field is a standard requirement for entry, not just preferred.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for HR Specialist roles in the U.S.?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens, but it avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. You can apply at any time of year, there's no annual cap to compete against, and renewals are indefinite as long as you hold a qualifying job offer. For HR professionals with Australian citizenship, the E-3 is a substantially more predictable path than the H-1B visa registration process.
What happens to my E-3 status if my HR role is restructured or eliminated?
Your E-3 status is tied to your specific employer and job. If your role is eliminated, you have a grace period of up to 60 days to find a new sponsoring employer and begin a fresh E-3 process. The new employer will need to file a new LCA and you'll need a new visa stamp if yours has expired, so starting the search immediately after any restructuring notice is critical.
