Frame your Australian CPA credentials correctly
USCIS assesses foreign qualifications against U.S. equivalents. A three-year Australian bachelor's in accounting or finance generally satisfies the E-3 visa degree requirement, but pair it with a credential evaluation letter if your employer's HR team questions the equivalency.
Target companies with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data for employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for finance and FP&A roles. Prior LCA activity signals a sponsor-ready HR process, cutting weeks off your onboarding timeline.
Find E-3 sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter FP&A Manager roles by employers with E-3 sponsorship history. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so you don't need to coordinate the LCA filing yourself.
Clarify the LCA timeline before accepting an offer
Your employer must obtain a certified LCA from DOL before your visa interview. DOL targets seven business days for certification, but ask HR to confirm they're filing promptly after signing, since delays here push your start date.
Prepare a degree-to-role mapping document
Consular officers sometimes probe whether an FP&A Manager role genuinely requires a specialized degree. A one-page document connecting your finance or accounting qualification to the specific analytical duties in your job description strengthens your case at interview.
Negotiate who pays government filing fees upfront
E-3 employer costs are modest compared to H-1B visa, but the LCA and visa application fees are legally separable. Establish in writing before your offer letter is finalized which fees the employer covers, so there's no ambiguity at filing time.
E-3 Visa FP&A Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find FP&A Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search FP&A Manager roles filtered specifically by employers with E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the visa. Standard job searches rarely surface sponsorship willingness for Australian nationals, making a targeted E-3-specific search significantly more efficient for finance roles.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an FP&A Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. FP&A Manager positions require a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, economics, or a closely related field, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. The role involves complex financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis that inherently demands specialized academic training, not just general business experience.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for an FP&A Manager?
The E-3 has a 10,500-slot annual allocation that has never been fully used, meaning there's no lottery and no random selection. H-1B requires entering a lottery with roughly a one-in-four chance of selection. For Australian FP&A professionals, the E-3 offers a predictable, lottery-free path that can be initiated at any time of year.
Can I switch employers or get promoted while on an E-3?
Yes, but each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp if you leave the country. An internal promotion that significantly changes your job duties may also require a new LCA to reflect the updated role. Plan ahead with HR before any title change that alters your core responsibilities.
