Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Functional Consultant
Align your degree to the role description
Functional Consultant positions span ERP platforms like SAP and Oracle, so make sure your credentials explicitly tie to the system or domain you'll be configuring. A degree in information systems, business analysis, or computer science gives consular officers a clear specialty occupation connection.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for employers who have filed LCAs under SOC codes for management analysts or software developers. Companies already familiar with the LCA process move faster and rarely push back on E-3 visa sponsorship requests.
Frame your role as specialty occupation early
Bring up E-3 sponsorship during the offer negotiation stage, not after you've signed. Provide a one-page summary explaining that Functional Consultants require specialized degree-level knowledge, which helps HR teams confirm the role meets USCIS specialty occupation standards before the LCA is filed.
Request a certified LCA before your consulate appointment
The DOL certifies LCAs within seven business days in most cases. Don't book your consulate appointment until the certified LCA is in hand. Arriving without it means your interview cannot proceed and you'll need to reschedule.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
Functional Consultant roles often involve third-party client sites, which can complicate how the LCA lists the work location. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the worksite details are documented correctly from the start.
Prepare Australian credential equivalency documentation
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. Bring your official transcript and, if your degree title doesn't obviously match the role, include a credential evaluation or a letter from your employer confirming the specialization required.
E-3 Visa Functional Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Functional Consultant jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Functional Consultant roles by employers who actively sponsor E-3 visas. Most general job boards don't distinguish E-3 sponsorship from H-1B visa, so you can spend a lot of time chasing roles at companies that won't sponsor Australian nationals specifically. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where E-3 sponsorship is already confirmed.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Functional Consultant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS defines specialty occupation as a position that normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. Functional Consultant roles implementing ERP systems like SAP, Oracle, or Salesforce typically require a degree in information systems, computer science, or business, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard. Roles that only require any bachelor's degree without a field requirement can be harder to support.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Functional Consultant roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian nationals and has no lottery, no annual cap, and faster employer onboarding since it skips the registration process entirely. The H-1B requires a lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate and a full fiscal year wait before work can begin. For Australian Functional Consultants, the E-3 means you can start within weeks of receiving an offer rather than waiting over a year.
Can I switch between Functional Consultant employers while on an E-3?
Yes, but each new employer must file a new LCA and you must obtain a new E-3 visa stamp before starting work, or in some cases apply for a change of status if you're already inside the United States. There's no portability provision like the one that exists under AC21 for H-1B holders, so the new sponsorship paperwork must be complete before you begin with the new employer.
