Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Automation Specialist
Align your credentials to specialty occupation
Your Australian bachelor's degree must correspond directly to automation engineering or a closely related field. A three-year degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but have your transcripts ready to show the technical alignment.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for companies that have previously filed LCAs for automation or controls engineering roles. Prior filings signal a hiring process that already accounts for E-3 visa sponsorship paperwork.
Clarify job duties before the LCA is filed
The LCA locks in your job title and duties for DOL certification. If your role spans both software integration and hardware commissioning, confirm with your employer how the position will be classified before filing, not after.
Request E-3 sponsorship before offer negotiation closes
Raise the E-3 visa process during the offer stage, not after signing. Because there's no lottery, employers often underestimate how straightforward sponsorship is. Framing it as a two-week LCA process reduces hesitation from HR teams unfamiliar with the visa.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA and visa paperwork
Once you have a job offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA submission, DS-160, and consulate preparation end-to-end. This removes the administrative burden from both you and your employer.
Prepare for consulate questions on automation work scope
Consular officers assess whether your role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Bring documentation showing the technical complexity of your work, such as system architecture diagrams, certifications like Siemens or Rockwell, or evidence of PLC and SCADA project ownership.
E-3 Visa Automation Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Automation Specialist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles that include E-3 sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards and guessing at sponsorship willingness, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified E-3 filing history in engineering and automation fields, so your search starts with realistic targets.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Automation Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as electrical engineering, mechatronics, or computer engineering. Roles focused on PLC programming, SCADA systems, robotics integration, or industrial process control consistently meet the specialty occupation standard. Generic maintenance or technician roles without a degree requirement typically do not qualify.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Automation Specialists?
The E-3 has a 10,500-slot annual allocation that has never been fully used, so there is no lottery and approvals are available year-round. The H-1B visa requires entering an oversubscribed annual lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate. For Australian automation engineers, the E-3 is the faster and more predictable path, with a two-year initial period and indefinite renewals while you remain employed.
Can I change automation employers after arriving on an E-3?
Yes, but your E-3 status is tied to a specific employer and LCA. If you change jobs, your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. or, in some cases, a change of status if you're already onshore. Plan for a processing window of several weeks minimum before starting with the new employer.
