Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an ICU Registered Nurse
Verify your BSN meets specialty occupation
Australian three-year nursing degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year BSN, but confirm this with a credential evaluation from a CGFNS-approved agency before applying. Employers and consular officers both review this documentation.
Obtain NCLEX-RN before contacting employers
U.S. hospitals won't process E-3 sponsorship without an active RN license in the state where you'll work. Sit the NCLEX-RN and secure state licensure first so employers aren't waiting on a critical prerequisite during offer negotiations.
Target health systems with existing international nurse pipelines
Large academic medical centers and trauma centers that already recruit internationally are far more likely to handle E-3 LCA filing without hesitation. Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for employers with recent LCA filings in nursing SOC codes.
Search for ICU nurse roles with E-3 sponsorship on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you've secured an offer. Migrate Mate manages the full process from offer letter to consulate appointment, so your employer doesn't need prior E-3 experience.
Clarify ICU specialty in your offer letter
The LCA your employer files must match the specific role. Ask your hiring manager to describe the position as a specialty-care ICU RN requiring critical care nursing qualifications, not a general staff nurse title, to avoid a mismatch at the consulate.
Book your consulate appointment at the right location
Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth all process E-3 applications, but appointment wait times differ significantly by consulate and season. Check current availability across all three cities rather than defaulting to your nearest option.

Find ICU Registered Nurse JobsICU Registered Nurse E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find ICU Registered Nurse jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists ICU RN roles specifically tagged for E-3 sponsorship, so you're not sifting through postings from employers unfamiliar with the visa. Because the E-3 requires employer-filed LCA paperwork, targeting employers who already understand the process or use a filing service cuts weeks off your timeline.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an ICU Registered Nurse role qualify as a specialty occupation for E-3 purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree in nursing as a minimum entry requirement. Employers must demonstrate that a BSN is standard for the role, not merely preferred. ICU and critical care nursing roles at acute care hospitals routinely meet this threshold because the clinical complexity demands degree-level preparation.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian ICU nurses?
The E-3 has a dedicated 10,500-annual allocation exclusively for Australian nationals and no lottery, so you can apply whenever you have a job offer rather than waiting for an annual random draw. The H-1B uses a cap lottery with roughly 85,000 slots shared globally, meaning many qualified nurses miss out entirely on their first attempt.
Can I switch ICU nursing employers while on an E-3 visa?
You can change employers, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with the DOL and you'll need to attend a new consulate interview for an updated E-3 stamp before starting work. There's no portability provision like some other visa categories, so plan for a processing gap of several weeks between roles.
