Translate your Australian credentials for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 visa purposes. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized service before you start applying so employers aren't left guessing.
Target companies with active E-3 filing history
Search DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify employers who have filed E-3 LCAs for IT Director or similar senior technology roles. Existing LCA history signals that the company's legal team already understands the process.
Frame your IT leadership scope in specialty occupation terms
The E-3 requires a direct link between your degree and the role. Document how your IT Director responsibilities, such as enterprise architecture, cybersecurity governance, or technology strategy, require specialized theoretical knowledge rather than general management experience.
Confirm the employer files your LCA before you interview consulate-ready
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa application can proceed. Clarify with the hiring team early whether their in-house legal team or an outside firm handles LCA filings, and get a realistic timeline before you schedule a consulate appointment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to streamline the post-offer process
Once you have a signed offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages your LCA submission, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation end-to-end, reducing back-and-forth between you, your employer, and the government agencies involved.
Negotiate E-3 sponsorship terms before you accept an offer
Confirm that the employer will cover LCA filing and that the offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for the IT Director role in that location. Getting this in writing before signing protects you if the internal process stalls after you've resigned your current position.
E-3 Visa IT Director: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find IT Director jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces IT Director roles at employers with E-3 and H-1B visa sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which companies will engage on visa questions. Standard job platforms don't filter by visa type or LCA filing history, which makes the process significantly harder for Australian candidates.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an IT Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes, in most cases. The E-3 specialty occupation standard requires that the position normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field. IT Director roles tied to enterprise technology strategy, systems architecture, or cybersecurity governance typically meet this standard when the job description reflects specialized technical leadership rather than general management.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for IT Director roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can apply at any point in the year and your application won't be rejected by random selection. H-1B registrations are capped at 85,000 per year and subject to a lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. For Australian IT Directors, the E-3 is a far more predictable path to U.S. employment.
Can I change employers once I'm in the United States on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but you need to restart the process with each new employer. Your new company must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to either apply for a new E-3 visa at a consulate or, in some cases, file for a change of status. There's no portability provision like the one available under H-1B after 180 days of approved status.
