Verify your degree meets specialty occupation requirements
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree to directly relate to the IT Support role. A degree in information technology, computer science, or systems administration works. A general business degree without IT coursework may not satisfy the specialty occupation standard.
Target employers already filing LCAs for IT roles
Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for certified LCAs in IT Support job categories. Employers with recent LCA filings already understand the E-3 visa process, which shortens the sponsorship conversation significantly.
Use Migrate Mate to find IT Support jobs with E-3 sponsorship
Searching broadly for IT Support roles won't surface which employers will sponsor an E-3. Use Migrate Mate to find positions from employers with active E-3 and H-1B visa filing history, saving time you'd otherwise spend on cold outreach.
Get your credentials assessed before applying
If your Australian IT qualifications include vendor certifications or a three-year bachelor's degree, have them formally assessed. A credential evaluation confirming U.S. equivalency strengthens your visa petition and removes employer doubt at the offer stage.
Clarify LCA obligations with your employer early
Your employer must file a certified LCA with the DOL before your visa appointment. Confirm they understand this step and have an HR or legal contact prepared to move quickly, since LCA delays are the most common reason E-3 timelines slip.
Handle the full filing process through a specialist service
IT Support roles often involve multiple work sites or contractor arrangements that complicate standard E-3 paperwork. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the LCA, visa documentation, and consulate preparation so nothing falls through when your employment setup is non-standard.
E-3 Visa IT Support: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find IT Support jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Most job listings don't specify which visa types an employer will sponsor. Migrate Mate filters IT Support roles by employers with a verified history of E-3 and work visa filings, so you're applying to companies that have already committed to sponsoring rather than discovering their position after an offer.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an IT Support role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. IT Support positions that require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field qualify as specialty occupations. Roles where a degree in any field is acceptable, or where no degree is required at all, don't meet the USCIS standard. The job description your employer writes matters as much as your own qualifications.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for IT Support roles in the U.S.?
For Australian IT professionals, the E-3 is far more practical than the H-1B. The H-1B is subject to an annual lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate, meaning most applicants don't get through. The E-3 has a 10,500 annual allocation that has never been filled, no lottery, and can be applied for at any time of year. Renewal is indefinite as long as you maintain qualifying employment.
Can I switch IT Support employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but your new employer must complete a fresh E-3 process before you start work. That means a new LCA certified by the DOL and a new visa stamp from a U.S. consulate if your current stamp has expired. You don't need to leave the U.S. to change employers, but you do need to confirm your I-94 validity period covers the transition timeline.
