Frame your Australian credentials for U.S. equivalency
A three-year Australian engineering or trades management degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's. Document your qualification level clearly on your resume so employers don't question specialty occupation eligibility before the interview stage.
Target employers with facilities management departments
Large manufacturers, hospital networks, university campuses, and commercial property firms maintain dedicated maintenance teams and are accustomed to sponsoring technical roles. These organisations already have HR processes in place for E-3 visa filings, which shortens the sponsorship conversation.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
Not every Maintenance Supervisor posting requires a degree, some list it as preferred rather than required. Check the job description carefully: USCIS requires the degree to be a normal minimum for entry into the occupation, so a listing that says 'degree or equivalent experience' may still support your E-3 application.
Ask about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before you can proceed to the consulate. LCA certification typically takes seven business days, but delays happen. Confirm your start date accounts for this step so you're not pressuring an inexperienced HR team at the last moment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
Once you have a signed offer letter, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle the LCA submission, DS-160, and consulate preparation. This is especially useful if your employer has no prior E-3 experience and doesn't have an immigration lawyer on retainer.
Search for Maintenance Supervisor roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not cold-approaching employers who have never sponsored a visa. Search by industry and location to find maintenance roles at organisations already familiar with the E-3 process.
E-3 Visa Maintenance Supervisor: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Maintenance Supervisor jobs that offer E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search. The platform surfaces Maintenance Supervisor listings at employers with a history of sponsoring E-3 and H-1B visas, so you're not spending time approaching companies that have never filed a work visa. Filter by industry, state, or role type to narrow your search.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Maintenance Supervisor role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. USCIS looks at whether a bachelor's degree in a specific field, engineering, facilities management, or a related discipline, is normally the minimum entry requirement for the position. Supervisory roles that involve system-level planning, contractor oversight, and compliance management are more likely to qualify than purely hands-on trades positions. The job description wording matters significantly.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Maintenance Supervisor roles?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no annual lottery, so you can apply any time of year once you have a job offer. The H-1B has an 85,000-slot annual cap and a lottery, meaning most applicants must wait for the April registration window and may not be selected. For qualified Australians, the E-3 removes that uncertainty entirely.
What happens to my E-3 status if I change employers?
Your E-3 visa is tied to your sponsoring employer, so switching jobs requires a new LCA filed by the incoming employer and a new visa stamp if yours reflects the old employer's details. You can start working for the new employer once the new LCA is certified and you have a valid visa or have obtained a new one at a consulate. There is no portability provision equivalent to the H-1B's AC21 rule.
