Verify your ARRT eligibility before applying
Most U.S. employers require American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification. Start the ARRT credentials verification process early, it can take several weeks and your offer letter may be contingent on passing the exam.
Target imaging centers with prior E-3 history
Large hospital networks and outpatient imaging chains are familiar with E-3 visa sponsorship paperwork. Smaller radiology practices often haven't filed before, which adds delays. Search DOL LCA disclosure data to confirm a facility has filed specialty occupation applications previously.
Clarify modality focus in your job offer letter
Your E-3 application ties your specialty occupation to the specific role. If your position covers multiple modalities, ensure the offer letter specifies MRI as the primary function, a vague description can create issues at the consulate interview.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and visa prep
Your employer must file a certified LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so nothing stalls between offer acceptance and your interview date.
Confirm your Australian degree meets U.S. equivalency standards
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree in medical imaging or radiography is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 specialty occupation purposes. Get a credential evaluation if your degree title differs from standard radiologic technology programs.
Negotiate your start date around LCA certification timelines
DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days, but your consulate appointment availability adds more time. Build at least four to six weeks into your proposed start date so your employer isn't pressured to rush a filing that affects wage attestation accuracy.
E-3 Visa MRI Technologist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find MRI Technologist jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search for MRI Technologist roles with confirmed E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter for visa sponsorship type, so you waste time applying to employers who only know H-1B visa. Migrate Mate surfaces imaging and radiology employers already familiar with the E-3 process, which shortens your time from application to offer.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an MRI Technologist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. MRI Technologist positions qualify as specialty occupations under the E-3 because the role theoretically and practically requires at least a bachelor's degree in radiologic technology, medical imaging, or a directly related field. USCIS evaluates both the degree requirement and whether the specific job duties align with that field. Roles focused primarily on MRI have a strong track record of approval when the offer letter is written correctly.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for MRI Technologists?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply any time of year and start as soon as your consulate appointment clears. The H-1B requires a lottery registration in March with a possible October 1 start date at the earliest. For MRI Technologists with a firm job offer, the E-3 path is faster and more predictable, with no risk of being randomly excluded from the applicant pool.
Can I switch MRI employers after arriving in the U.S. on an E-3?
You can change employers, but your E-3 status is tied to the sponsoring employer. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to either apply for a new E-3 visa at an Australian consulate or, in some cases, change status within the U.S. Don't resign before your new employer's LCA is certified and your next visa step is confirmed.
