Verify your degree supports specialty occupation
Office Clerk roles only qualify for E-3 visa if the position requires a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Check that your job description explicitly states a degree requirement in a related field like business administration or records management.
Target employers already filing LCAs
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for administrative or clerical roles. These employers already understand E-3 sponsorship obligations and are far less likely to withdraw an offer over paperwork concerns.
Get your credential equivalency documented early
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees, but some employers will ask for written confirmation. Obtain a credential evaluation letter before you start applying so you can provide it immediately upon request.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA step
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa interview, and errors in the wage attestation or job duties description are the most common delay. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the process moves without interruption after you receive your offer.
Clarify sponsorship before the offer stage
Raise E-3 sponsorship during final-round interviews, not after you receive a written offer. Explain that the employer's primary obligation is filing the LCA with DOL, which involves no lottery and no employer-specific fees beyond filing costs, making it far less complex than H-1B visa sponsorship.
Confirm your I-94 status before attending your interview
If you're already in the U.S. on another visa status, check your I-94 expiry date on the CBP portal before scheduling your consular appointment in Australia. Attending an E-3 interview while out of status abroad can trigger complications that delay your return.
E-3 Visa Office Clerk: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Office Clerk jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Office Clerk roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, which means you end up screening dozens of postings manually. Migrate Mate surfaces roles specifically matched to E-3 eligibility so you're not wasting applications on employers unfamiliar with the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Office Clerk role actually qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is written. The E-3 requires the position to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. A generic administrative assistant posting that lists a degree as preferred rather than required won't qualify. Roles framed around records management, compliance coordination, or business operations, with a stated degree requirement in business administration or a related field, are more likely to meet the specialty occupation standard.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Office Clerk roles?
The H-1B subjects you to an annual lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate, meaning you could go three or four years before being selected even with a qualifying offer. The E-3 has no lottery. It has an annual cap of 10,500 visas, but that cap has never been reached. For an Office Clerk role where the specialty occupation case is already borderline, the E-3 removes the lottery risk entirely and lets you start work as soon as your visa is approved.
What happens to my E-3 status if my employer terminates my Office Clerk role?
The E-3 is employer-tied, so termination ends your authorized period of stay. USCIS does not provide a formal grace period for E-3 holders the way it does for H-1B holders, though CBP officers have discretion when you depart and re-enter. If you lose your role, you'll need to either secure a new employer and obtain a new E-3 visa before your current status lapses or depart the U.S. and reapply once you have a new offer and certified LCA.
