Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Oncologist
Verify your medical credentials transfer correctly
Australian medical degrees are generally accepted for E-3 specialty occupation purposes, but your employer's immigration counsel will need documentation of your MBBS or equivalent. Have your degree transcripts and ECFMG certification ready before approaching any U.S. hospital system.
Target academic medical centers first
Teaching hospitals and NCI-designated cancer centers file LCAs regularly for specialist physicians and have in-house immigration teams familiar with E-3 requirements. These institutions move faster from offer to sponsorship than community hospitals encountering the E-3 for the first time.
Clarify state licensure timing with your employer
You need a valid state medical license before your E-3 can be approved, and licensing timelines vary by state. Confirm with your prospective employer which state the role is based in and start the licensure application in parallel with your job search.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for LCA and consulate prep
Oncology employers are accustomed to H-1B filings, not E-3s. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA filing, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation so your employer isn't navigating an unfamiliar process without support.
Address the H-1B gap directly in employer conversations
Many oncology hiring managers assume all physician sponsorship requires an H-1B lottery. Explain that the E-3 is cap-exempt, renewable indefinitely, and can be approved in weeks rather than months, which removes the lottery uncertainty that makes some employers hesitate.
File your LCA well before your intended start date
DOL targets seven business days for LCA certification, but physician roles with complex prevailing wage determinations occasionally draw additional review. Build at least four weeks into your timeline between LCA submission and your planned consulate appointment.

Find Oncologist JobsOncologist E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Oncologist jobs in the U.S. that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Oncologist roles with confirmed E-3 visa sponsorship. The platform filters by visa type so you're only seeing employers who have already indicated sponsorship willingness, saving you the back-and-forth of asking at the application stage. Most E-3-sponsoring oncology positions are at academic medical centers, hospital systems, and cancer institutes.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Oncologist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Oncology is one of the clearest specialty occupation categories under E-3 rules. The role requires a medical degree in a specific field, state licensure, and board certification, all of which satisfy the theoretical and practical application of highly specialized knowledge that USCIS looks for. There is no ambiguity here the way there can be with broader job titles.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Australian oncologists?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your start date isn't subject to the H-1B selection process. E-3 petitions can be approved and consulate appointments scheduled within weeks of a job offer, compared to H-1B timelines that can run 12 months or longer. The E-3 also renews indefinitely in two-year increments, giving you the same long-term stability without the lottery risk.
Can I work at multiple hospital sites on a single E-3 visa as an Oncologist?
Each work location requires its own LCA, so if you're credentialed at more than one hospital campus or clinic site, your employer needs to file separate LCAs covering each location. This is common in large health systems where oncologists rotate across campuses. Confirm with your employer that all intended work sites are covered before your visa is issued.
