Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Planner
Align your credentials with U.S. specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires your planning degree to directly correspond to the role. An urban planning, environmental planning, or civil engineering degree typically satisfies this. A general business or geography degree may require supplementary documentation linking it to the specific position.
Target employers with active DOL LCA filing histories
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have certified LCAs for planning job titles. Prior LCA activity signals the employer already understands the E-3 visa filing process and is less likely to stall at the offer stage.
Find E-3 sponsoring planning employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to search Planner roles filtered by E-3 visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so you can hand off the LCA and paperwork once you have an offer.
Clarify your Australian degree equivalency before interviewing
Australian three-year planning degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year bachelor's degrees for E-3 purposes. Prepare a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator in advance so employers don't hesitate when assessing your qualifications.
Negotiate employer responsibilities into your offer letter
The employer must file the LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment. Confirm during the offer stage that your employer accepts this obligation and understands the LCA must be certified before you can schedule your E-3 interview at an Australian consulate.
Time your application around prevailing wage requirements
The LCA obligates your employer to pay the DOL prevailing wage for your planning role in the specific work location. Review the DOL's prevailing wage data for your city before accepting an offer to ensure the salary meets the certified threshold.
E-3 Visa Planner: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Planner jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Planner roles filtered specifically by E-3 visa sponsorship. Many employers who hire Australian planners have prior LCA filing history, which signals they're already set up to sponsor E-3 holders. Searching by role and sponsorship status saves time you'd otherwise spend vetting employers who have never handled the process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Planner role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as urban planning, environmental planning, or transportation planning. USCIS evaluates the job duties, not just the title. Roles that accept any degree or treat planning qualifications as optional may not meet the specialty occupation threshold, so the job description wording matters.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Australian planners?
The E-3 has a significant practical advantage: no lottery. H-1B visa registrations are capped at 85,000 annually and subject to random selection, while the E-3 allocates up to 10,500 visas per year exclusively to Australian citizens and has never been oversubscribed. For a planner with a qualifying degree and a U.S. job offer, the E-3 is a more predictable and direct path to authorization.
Can I change planning employers after receiving my E-3 visa?
Yes, but the E-3 is employer-specific, so each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll typically need a new visa stamp if your current one has expired. If you're already in the U.S., you can start working for a new employer once the new LCA is certified and a new E-3 petition is approved, without leaving the country in many cases.
