JOB SUMMARY
The Platform UX Team is looking for a talented UX designer with expertise in building accessible design systems that can sustain enterprise scale. This is an opportunity to plan, build, maintain, and scale an existing design system which supports a platform with 50+ services, 50+ designers, and 200+ engineers. You'll work with designers, design managers, product managers, and engineers from ideation through implementation to define the best user experience for Fortune 500 companies and national security organizations. You'll be on the front lines, defining how GenAI and design intersect at our company.
You’re a collaborative builder who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You love bringing ideas to life, crafting everything from polished demos to high-fidelity components that get your team aligned and excited. You’re driven to constantly push your craft, delivering smart, scalable templates, and partnering closely with engineers to ensure high-quality, file-to-production alignment through shared tooling and languages. Success in this role means reducing dev handoff friction by driving alignment between Figma and our production codebase and defining scalable governance models with GenAI.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
-
Modernize and scale our design system: Design components, UI patterns, and a data visualization library for the UX team to use for their feature work. Use Gen AI or any other tools/plugins to automate your process and create efficiency. Work with engineering to create integrations and leverage MCP (Model Context Protocol). Work with the UX and product team to build a scalable process of vibe coding, leveraging the design system but also keeping scope for innovation.
-
Design system documentation: You’ll be leading the documentation of the design system in Figma, Storybook and other tools where necessary.
-
Design system evangelist: You will also work on communication and adoption of design systems, building strong advocates in the company.
-
Data informed design decisions: You'll deliver quality-of-life designs based on customer feedback from concept to final implementation, using data and usability testing to inform design decisions.
-
Figma code parity: Ensure Figma components and their code counterparts remain in sync. You’ll define component architecture (variants, props, and slots) which is in alignment with how dev is planning to build them. Use tokens to maintain multiple theme enablement in the UI. UX for product features: You will also have the opportunity to contribute on feature work in the platform to learn about the technology and user persona. Transform mundane workflows into delightful experiences.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
What You Should Have
-
6+ years of Product Design Experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing a deep understanding of design principles.
-
Built 2-3 design systems from scratch for midsize to companies to enterprises.
-
Expertise in the full design cycle: from concept, research, and scoping to wireframing, prototyping, and user testing.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Principal Designer
Frame your portfolio around U.S. specialty occupation standards
Australian 3-year bachelor's degrees are accepted as equivalent to U.S. 4-year degrees for E-3 visa purposes, but your portfolio should clearly connect your design discipline to the specific role's degree requirement, not just showcase finished work.
Target employers with active design leadership hiring
Search DOL's Labor Condition Application disclosure data to identify companies that have filed LCAs for Principal Designer or Senior Designer roles. Prior LCA filings signal that an employer already understands the E-3 sponsorship process.
Raise E-3 sponsorship early in final-round conversations
Most U.S. employers haven't sponsored an E-3 before, but the process is simpler than H-1B visa, no lottery, no quota. Bringing it up at offer stage rather than after a verbal acceptance avoids last-minute surprises for the hiring manager.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage the LCA and paperwork
Once you have an offer, the employer needs to file the LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation end-to-end so neither you nor your employer stalls the process.
Clarify your job title matches a recognized specialty occupation
"Principal Designer" covers product design, UX, industrial, and interior disciplines. Make sure your offer letter uses a title and job description that maps to a field requiring a specific bachelor's degree, ambiguous scopes can complicate LCA certification.
Negotiate a start date that accounts for consulate processing time
Australian consulates typically schedule E-3 visa interviews within a few weeks, but administrative processing can extend that window. Build at least four to six weeks between your offer acceptance and your intended U.S. start date.
E-3 Visa Principal Designer: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Principal Designer jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Most job listings don't explicitly advertise E-3 sponsorship because the visa is less well known than H-1B. Migrate Mate lets you search Principal Designer roles by employers with confirmed E-3 and LCA filing history, so you're targeting companies that have already navigated the process rather than educating every recruiter from scratch.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Principal Designer role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a specific design discipline, product design, interaction design, industrial design, or a closely related field. Roles where any bachelor's degree would satisfy the requirement, regardless of field, can struggle to meet the specialty occupation standard. Your offer letter and job description need to reflect that degree specificity clearly.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Principal Designer roles?
The E-3 is only available to Australian citizens, but it has no lottery and no annual cap, the 10,500-slot allocation has never been exhausted. H-1B requires entering a random lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. For Australians, the E-3 is a direct path to a two-year work visa, renewable indefinitely, with no lottery risk at all.
Can I switch employers or take on a new Principal Designer role while on E-3 status?
You can change employers, but your new employer needs to file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. if you travel internationally after the switch. There's no portability provision like AC21 for H-1B, so the process restarts from the LCA filing stage with each new employer.
