Frame your degree for specialty occupation
Your Australian hospitality or business degree must align directly with the assistant manager role. If your qualification is from a three-year program, document its equivalency to a U.S. four-year degree before approaching employers, since consular officers assess this at interview.
Target multi-unit and hotel restaurant groups
Large restaurant groups and hotel chains with HR infrastructure are more likely to sponsor E-3 visas than independent operators. Focus your search on companies with existing international staff or dedicated HR teams who already understand the LCA filing process.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching for assistant manager roles with E-3 sponsorship requires filtering beyond standard job boards. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active E-3 filing history so you're applying to restaurants that have already committed to sponsoring Australian nationals.
Confirm the job offer triggers an LCA before accepting
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before you can apply for the E-3. Before you accept any offer, confirm the hiring manager knows this step is required and that the company's HR team or legal counsel is prepared to file it promptly.
Time your consulate appointment around restaurant peak seasons
Restaurant operations slow down during January and February, making that window practical for scheduling your consulate appointment without disrupting your start date. Avoid targeting November and December start dates, when appointment slots and employer availability are both constrained.
Handle your LCA and visa paperwork through a filing service
Restaurant employers often lack dedicated immigration counsel for E-3 cases. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage the entire process from LCA submission through consulate preparation, reducing the burden on your employer and keeping your application on track.
E-3 Visa Restaurant Assistant Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Restaurant Assistant Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters restaurant and hospitality employers by E-3 filing history, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with Australian visa sponsorship. Standard job boards list assistant manager roles but don't surface which employers are prepared to sponsor an E-3 or file an LCA.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Restaurant Assistant Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It can, but the role description matters. The position must normally require at least a bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related field. Roles where a degree is preferred but not required may not qualify. Ask your prospective employer to confirm the job description specifies a degree requirement before the LCA is filed with the DOL.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Restaurant Assistant Manager roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can apply at any point in the year without waiting for an April selection window. H-1B visa registration results in rejection for most applicants due to oversubscription. For Australian hospitality professionals, the E-3 is a direct path that doesn't depend on random selection, as long as the role meets specialty occupation criteria.
Can I switch restaurant employers while on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but your new employer must file a new LCA with the DOL and you'll need to obtain a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S., or in some cases adjust your status. You can't simply transfer the E-3 to a new employer the way some other visa categories allow. Confirm your new employer is willing to complete the LCA process before resigning from your current role.
