Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Retirement Plan Consultant
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation standards
USCIS requires your bachelor's degree to directly relate to retirement plan consulting work. A finance, actuarial science, economics, or business administration degree satisfies this. A general arts degree without coursework in financial planning typically won't.
Target employers with defined benefit plan practices
Large consulting firms, insurance carriers, and independent recordkeepers are most likely to have E-3 sponsorship experience. Focus on organizations administering ERISA-governed plans, where specialist knowledge is a documented hiring requirement rather than a preference.
Get your LCA certified before signing anything
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your visa application proceeds. Confirm they understand this sequence. Delays happen when HR treats LCA certification as a post-offer formality rather than a prerequisite to consulate scheduling.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your paperwork
Once you have a job offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This avoids the coordination errors that occur when employers file without prior E-3 experience in financial services roles.
Clarify your Australian credentials in applications
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 purposes. Address this upfront in your resume and any credential evaluation, so hiring managers don't screen you out before the sponsorship conversation begins.
Confirm the role is coded as a specialty occupation
The DOL's Standard Occupational Classification system underpins LCA filings. Retirement Plan Consultant roles typically fall under financial analysts or benefits specialists SOC codes. Ask your prospective employer which code they plan to use before the LCA is submitted.

Find Retirement Plan Consultant JobsRetirement Plan Consultant E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Retirement Plan Consultant jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to find Retirement Plan Consultant roles at U.S. employers already open to E-3 sponsorship. Because the E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, employers face a straightforward filing process, which makes many consulting firms, insurance carriers, and benefit plan administrators willing to sponsor Australian candidates who demonstrate the right technical credentials.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Retirement Plan Consultant role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as finance, actuarial science, or business administration. Roles involving ERISA compliance analysis, plan design, or actuarial valuations typically satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation definition. Generalist roles where any degree is accepted may not qualify without additional documentation from the employer.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Retirement Plan Consultants?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australians. There is no annual cap and no lottery, so you can apply at any point in the year without waiting for an April selection round. H-1B registration is capped at 85,000 slots annually with a random lottery, meaning qualified candidates are often not selected despite having valid job offers and credentials.
Can I switch employers if a better Retirement Plan Consultant role comes up?
Yes. The E-3 is employer-specific, so your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with the DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp if you've left the U.S., or a change of status petition if you remain stateside. Plan for at least a few weeks between LCA submission and consulate appointment availability when timing a role transition.
