Frame your credentials for U.S. specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree to align with the Security Product Manager role specifically. A cybersecurity, computer science, or information systems degree strengthens your E-3 visa case far more than a general business degree, even with equivalent work experience.
Target employers with active security product teams
Focus on companies that have dedicated security product lines, not just a security function within IT. Employers building products like SIEM platforms, endpoint protection, or identity management are structured to sponsor technical product roles under the E-3.
Get your LCA filed before you resign in Australia
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your consulate appointment. This step takes seven to ten business days minimum, so confirm the LCA timeline with HR before giving notice to your current employer.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork
Security Product Manager roles involve nuanced specialty occupation documentation. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the LCA, prepares your DS-160, and gets you ready for your consulate appointment without you coordinating between your employer and a law firm.
Clarify your role's decision-making scope before the interview
Consular officers assess whether the position genuinely requires a specialized degree. Prepare to explain how you define security requirements, own the product roadmap, and translate threat intelligence into features, distinguishing the role from general project management.
Negotiate who handles E-3 renewal before you accept the offer
E-3 renewals require a fresh LCA filing each cycle. Confirm in writing whether your employer covers renewal legal costs and whether internal HR or outside counsel manages the process, so you're not negotiating this mid-employment.
E-3 Visa Security Product Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Security Product Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Security Product Manager roles filtered specifically for E-3 visa sponsorship. Many companies that sponsor security product talent don't advertise E-3 eligibility explicitly, so searching a platform built around Australian visa status gives you a more accurate picture of which employers are genuinely set up to sponsor you.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Security Product Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific related field such as computer science, information security, or engineering. The key is that the role must not be open to any bachelor's degree graduate regardless of field. Job descriptions that require a degree specifically in a technical security discipline are the strongest fit for E-3 specialty occupation status.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Security Product Manager roles?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so your employer can sponsor you at any point in the year and the petition is approved or denied on its merits alone. H-1B visa registrations enter a randomized lottery each March, meaning a qualified Security Product Manager candidate can be rejected purely by chance. For Australians, the E-3 is a materially more predictable path into the same roles.
Can I switch to a new employer while on an E-3 as a Security Product Manager?
Yes, but you cannot start with the new employer until a fresh LCA is certified by the DOL and your new E-3 visa is issued. Unlike H-1B portability rules, the E-3 does not allow you to begin work on a pending petition. Plan for a gap of at least two to four weeks between offer acceptance and your first day, and verify consulate appointment availability before you give notice.
