Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Software Quality Assurance
Translate your credentials for U.S. hiring managers
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 purposes. Make sure your resume frames your QA qualifications in terms of the specific technical degree field, not just your job title or years of experience.
Target employers with existing LCA filing history
Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure database for companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for software quality assurance or QA engineer roles. Prior LCA activity signals that the employer already understands the E-3 filing process and won't need to start from scratch.
Clarify the specialty occupation requirement early
Not every QA role qualifies. If the job posting says a degree is preferred rather than required, the role may not meet the E-3 specialty occupation definition. Raise this with the hiring manager before the offer stage to avoid a last-minute filing problem.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA step
The LCA is the first filing hurdle and must be certified by the DOL before your visa interview. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so your employer isn't left navigating the process without support.
Time your consulate appointment around your current status
If you're already in the U.S. on another visa, check whether consular processing or a change of status makes more sense for your timeline. Returning to Australia for a consulate appointment at Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth is often faster than waiting on a USCIS status change.

Find Software Quality Assurance JobsSoftware Quality Assurance E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Software Quality Assurance jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the recommended way to search for Software Quality Assurance roles where the employer is open to E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, which means you spend most of your time on roles that won't lead anywhere. Migrate Mate surfaces positions where sponsorship is a realistic outcome for Australian candidates.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Software Quality Assurance role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Most mid-level and senior QA engineer roles qualify because they require a theoretical and practical application of computer science or software engineering knowledge, with a bachelor's degree as a baseline requirement. Roles that list a degree as preferred rather than required, or where any field of study would be accepted, are weaker candidates and can draw scrutiny at the consulate.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Software Quality Assurance roles?
For Australian QA professionals, the E-3 is significantly more practical. The H-1B requires entering a lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate, while the E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap. You can apply directly after receiving an offer, attend a consulate interview in Australia, and start work within a matter of weeks rather than waiting for an October 1 start date.
What happens to my E-3 status if my employer conducts layoffs or I change roles?
The E-3 is employer-specific, so if you're laid off or change employers, your current E-3 status does not automatically carry over. You'll need a new LCA certified by the DOL and, in most cases, a new visa stamp before you can start with the new employer. You generally have a 60-day grace period after losing employment to find a new sponsor or depart the U.S.
