Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Strategy Intern
Frame your Australian degree for U.S. employers
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. Attach a credential evaluation letter to your application materials so hiring managers don't flag it as a gap.
Target employers already filing LCAs
Search DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for strategy or business analyst roles. Those employers already understand the E-3 process and won't need educating at the offer stage.
Clarify sponsorship readiness before final interviews
Ask directly whether the company has filed an LCA before, not whether they 'sponsor visas.' Many strategy teams at mid-size firms have sponsored full-time roles but haven't considered intern-level E-3 filings, which follow the same process.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your LCA
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This is especially useful for internships where the employer's HR team may be unfamiliar with the DOL certification process for short-term roles.
Confirm your internship meets specialty occupation criteria
The E-3 requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation. A strategy internship tied to a specific degree field, such as economics or finance, will satisfy this. A generalist 'helper' role without a defined degree requirement will not.
Account for LCA timing in your start date negotiation
DOL targets LCA certification within seven business days, but consulate appointment wait times in Sydney or Melbourne can add two to six weeks. Build this window into your offer negotiation so your start date is realistic and doesn't create pressure on the employer.

Find Strategy Intern JobsStrategy Intern E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Strategy Intern jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Rather than filtering through general job boards, Migrate Mate surfaces strategy internship roles at employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications before, which significantly reduces the back-and-forth about whether sponsorship is possible.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an internship role qualify for the E-3 visa?
Yes, provided the role meets the specialty occupation definition. The position must normally require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field, and the duties must align with that field. A strategy internship at a consulting firm or corporate strategy team that requires business, economics, or finance credentials will typically qualify. A broad operational role without a degree requirement will not.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Strategy Intern roles?
The E-3 is exclusively available to Australian nationals and has no annual cap or lottery, so you can apply any time of year. The H-1B is capped at 85,000 per year and requires lottery selection, which means most new applicants can only start in October after a March registration. For a summer or semester internship, the E-3's open timeline is a practical advantage the H-1B cannot match.
Can I convert my E-3 internship to a full-time role after graduating?
Yes. If your employer wants to retain you after the internship, they file a new LCA for the full-time position and you attend a consulate appointment to obtain a fresh E-3 visa stamp. There is no cap on E-3 renewals, so this transition can happen as many times as you and your employer need. The internship E-3 does not automatically extend into the full-time role.
