E-3 Visa Summer Associate Jobs
Summer Associate roles at U.S. law firms and consulting practices qualify as E-3 specialty occupations when tied to a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Australian nationals can secure E-3 sponsorship for these positions without entering an H-1B lottery, and the visa can be renewed for subsequent summer or full-time roles at the same employer.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Summer Associate
Align your degree field to the role
Summer Associate positions require a direct nexus between your degree and the work. A law degree supports a legal Summer Associate role; a finance or economics degree supports a banking one. Mismatched credentials are the most common LCA complication.
Target firms with existing E-3 filing history
Large law firms and consulting practices that recruit internationally have already run E-3 filings for prior Australian summers hires. Prioritise employers whose recruiting teams know the process, so your offer letter doesn't stall waiting for HR approval.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for time-sensitive summer timelines
Summer Associate start dates are fixed and non-negotiable. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages your LCA submission and consulate preparation so your documents are ready well before your first day, even with a compressed offer-to-start window.
Prepare your Australian credentials for U.S. evaluation
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. Gather your academic transcripts and, if your degree title is non-standard, a credential evaluation letter to present at your consulate interview.
Schedule your consulate appointment around recruiting timelines
Summer Associate offers typically land between October and February, with start dates in May or June. Book your Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth consulate appointment as soon as your LCA is certified to avoid appointment backlogs eating into your pre-start buffer.

Find Summer Associate JobsSummer Associate E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Summer Associate jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Summer Associate roles by employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history. Most general job searches don't surface sponsorship status, so you risk applying to firms that won't support a visa filing. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where Australian professionals have already been sponsored, which makes targeting your applications far more efficient.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Summer Associate role actually qualify as a specialty occupation for E-3 purposes?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field directly related to the work. A Summer Associate at a law firm tied to a law degree, or a finance summer program requiring an economics or finance degree, both satisfy the specialty occupation definition. Roles advertised as open to any degree field can create complications at the consulate, so review the job description carefully before proceeding.
How does E-3 compare to H-1B for Summer Associate sponsorship?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for a Summer Associate. H-1B requires lottery selection, which won't resolve in time for a fixed summer start date, and cap-exempt H-1B categories don't typically apply to commercial law firms or consulting firms. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so your employer can file an LCA and support your consulate appointment on your actual recruiting timeline without waiting for a registration outcome.
Can my employer convert my Summer Associate E-3 to a full-time E-3 after the program ends?
Yes. If the firm extends you a full-time offer, you can either apply for a new E-3 at the consulate covering your full-time role or, if you're already in the U.S. in a valid status, explore a change of status. The full-time role needs its own LCA and visa documentation, so start that process as soon as you receive a return offer to avoid any gap between your summer end date and your full-time start.
