E-3 Visa Legal Intern Jobs
Legal Intern roles in U.S. law firms and corporate legal departments qualify for E-3 visa sponsorship when the position requires a law degree or equivalent legal credential. The E-3 has no lottery and renews indefinitely in two-year increments, making it well-suited for internships that convert to full-time associate positions.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Legal Intern
Translate your Australian law degree credentials
U.S. employers need to see that your Australian LLB or JD satisfies the specialty occupation requirement. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before applying so your degree is ready when an employer requests documentation.
Target firms with existing E-3 filing history
Large law firms and Fortune 500 legal departments that have sponsored Australian staff before already understand the LCA and DS-160 process. Use Migrate Mate to filter Legal Intern roles by employers with active E-3 sponsorship records.
Ask about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment. Confirm the firm's HR team knows this step and has a timeline in mind before you sign anything.
Clarify whether the internship is paid
The DOL requires E-3 employers to pay the prevailing wage for the role and location on the LCA. Unpaid or stipend-only internships don't satisfy this requirement, so verify the compensation structure is a proper salary before proceeding.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Law firm HR teams are experienced with attorney visas but sometimes unfamiliar with intern-level E-3 filings. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA, DS-160, and consulate preparation so neither you nor your employer gets stuck on procedural details.
Plan your consulate appointment around bar exam timing
If your internship is tied to a bar admission timeline, book your consulate appointment in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth as soon as your LCA is certified. Current appointment wait times vary by location, so don't wait until after you have an offer to check availability.

Find Legal Intern JobsLegal Intern E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Legal Intern jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to find Legal Intern roles filtered specifically for E-3 visa sponsorship. Most general job boards don't distinguish between visa types, so you can't tell which firms are willing to file an LCA for an intern. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with active E-3 sponsorship history, saving you from applying to positions that will never move forward on sponsorship.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Legal Intern role actually qualify as a specialty occupation under the E-3?
Yes, provided the role genuinely requires a law degree or equivalent legal credential as a baseline condition of employment. Internships at law firms, in-house legal departments, or government legal offices typically qualify. Roles where any bachelor's degree is acceptable, regardless of field, do not meet the specialty occupation standard, so the job description matters significantly.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Legal Intern roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens but has no lottery, no annual cap, and no employer registration fee tied to a random selection process. For a Legal Intern position, this means your employer can file at any time of year and expect a predictable outcome. The H-1B cap lottery means most new petitions can only start work in October, which is impractical for short-term internships.
Can a Legal Intern E-3 convert to a full-time attorney visa later?
Yes. There's no restriction on transitioning from an E-3 intern role to a full-time E-3 associate or counsel position with the same or a different employer. Each new role requires a fresh LCA and a new visa stamp if you travel internationally, but your status remains continuous as long as you maintain valid E-3 authorization and a qualifying job offer.
