Frame your Australian HR credentials correctly
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree in HR or business satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement. Document your degree as equivalent to a U.S. four-year qualification by obtaining a credential evaluation before you apply.
Target companies with active internship HR pipelines
Focus on mid-size to large employers with formal internship programs, since they already have HR and legal infrastructure to file an LCA. Smaller firms often lack the internal process to sponsor visa paperwork for intern-level roles.
Search for E-3 sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters HR intern roles by employers willing to sponsor E-3 visas, saving you from applying to positions where sponsorship will be declined at the offer stage.
Confirm the role meets specialty occupation standards
HR intern positions that involve generalist administrative tasks may not satisfy DOL's specialty occupation test. Push for roles with a defined HR function, such as talent acquisition, HRIS, or workforce analytics, to strengthen your LCA eligibility.
Ask about LCA timing before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment. Clarify at the offer stage who handles this filing and whether they have legal counsel, since delays here directly push back your start date.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for end-to-end support
Once you have an offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the LCA, visa paperwork, and consulate preparation so your employer doesn't need prior sponsorship experience to get you started on time.

Find Human Resources Intern JobsHuman Resources Intern E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Human Resources Intern jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search HR intern roles filtered by employers willing to sponsor E-3 visas. Most general job boards don't let you filter by visa type, so you end up applying to positions where sponsorship gets declined at the offer stage. Migrate Mate surfaces roles where sponsorship is already part of the employer's hiring process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an HR internship qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined. A generic HR admin internship may not meet the specialty occupation standard, which requires the position to normally require a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Roles with a defined function, such as talent acquisition, HRIS administration, or compensation analysis, are stronger candidates. The LCA filing will reflect the actual duties, so the job description matters.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for HR intern roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap that restricts how many Australian nationals can be sponsored each year. The H-1B requires registration in a random lottery where most applicants aren't selected. For an Australian intern, the E-3 is a direct path: your employer files an LCA, you attend a consulate interview, and you start work. No lottery, no April wait, no uncertainty about selection.
What happens to my E-3 status if the internship ends before the two-year period?
Your E-3 status is tied to your employment with the sponsoring employer. If the internship ends early, you're no longer in valid E-3 status and have a limited window to depart or change status. Unlike the H-1B, the E-3 does not carry a formal 60-day grace period under USCIS regulations, so timing your departure or a status change is critical if the role ends unexpectedly.
