Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Accounting Intern
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
Your Australian accounting degree must directly relate to the intern role's duties. A three-year Bachelor of Accounting is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree, but bring your official transcripts and a credential evaluation to confirm field-specific alignment.
Target employers already filing LCAs
Search the DOL's FLAG portal for employers who have certified Labor Condition Applications for accounting roles. Firms with prior LCA history understand the E-3 visa process and are far less likely to withdraw an offer once they learn you need sponsorship.
Frame sponsorship early in applications
Disclose your E-3 status in cover letters before interviews, not after an offer. Accounting internship programs at mid-size and large firms often have HR compliance teams who need lead time to confirm E-3 eligibility and begin the LCA filing with DOL.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Once you have an offer, the LCA and visa paperwork must be filed in the correct sequence before your consulate appointment. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so filing errors don't delay your start date.
Confirm the role qualifies before accepting
Not every accounting internship is a specialty occupation. Roles focused purely on data entry or clerical tasks can fail the E-3 specialty occupation test. Ask the employer whether the position requires a degree in accounting specifically, not just any bachelor's degree.
Time your consulate appointment around your start date
E-3 visas are issued for up to two years but tied to the validity period on your LCA. Book your appointment in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth as soon as your LCA is certified, and confirm the certified end date aligns with your full internship term.
E-3 Visa Accounting Intern: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Accounting Intern jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. Filter by job title and visa type to see Accounting Intern roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Most general job platforms don't filter by visa status, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where sponsorship was never on the table.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an accounting internship qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, if the role requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or a directly related field. The key is that a degree in a specific discipline must be a genuine requirement of the job, not just a preference. Internships structured as accounting training programs at CPA firms or corporate finance teams typically meet this standard. Roles described as general business support often don't.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for accounting interns?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so there's no randomized selection process standing between you and a job offer. H-1B visa petitions compete in a lottery that selects roughly one in four registrants. For an Australian accounting intern, the E-3 means a valid offer and a qualifying role are enough to move forward without waiting for a lottery outcome.
Can I start an accounting internship on a student visa and switch to E-3?
If you're in the U.S. on an F-1 student visa with OPT authorization, you can work as an accounting intern under that status. Transitioning to E-3 requires leaving the U.S. and attending a consulate interview in Australia, as change of status to E-3 from inside the U.S. is not currently available through USCIS for most applicants.
