Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship in Tech Lead
Translate your credentials for U.S. employers
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 visa purposes. Get an official credential evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator before interviews so employers don't flag a degree gap during sponsorship review.
Target companies with prior E-3 filing history
Search DOL's LCA disclosure data to identify employers who have previously certified Labor Condition Applications for Tech Lead or similar software engineering roles. Prior E-3 filings signal a company already understands the process and won't balk at sponsorship.
Clarify the Tech Lead specialty occupation argument
Roles that blend management with hands-on engineering sometimes draw USCIS scrutiny over whether they qualify as specialty occupations. Confirm your job description emphasizes degree-specific technical requirements, not just team oversight, before the LCA is filed.
Time your offer acceptance around LCA certification
The employer must file and receive a certified LCA from DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. Build at least two to three weeks into your start date negotiations to allow for LCA processing without compressing your interview timeline.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for end-to-end support
LCA preparation, DS-160 completion, and consulate appointment coordination all run in parallel for Tech Lead applicants. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer acceptance to consulate appointment, reducing back-and-forth with your employer's HR team.
Prepare your nonimmigrant intent response in advance
Tech Lead candidates married to U.S. citizens or holding green card applications often face closer consular scrutiny on nonimmigrant intent. Have a clear, factual explanation of your ties to Australia ready before your interview, not drafted the night before.
E-3 Visa Tech Lead: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Tech Lead jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters jobs specifically by E-3 visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're not sifting through listings from employers unfamiliar with the visa. Tech Lead roles show up across software, fintech, and enterprise technology companies that have prior LCA filing history, which Migrate Mate surfaces directly in search results.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Tech Lead role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science or software engineering. Roles where the degree requirement is listed as a preference rather than a minimum, or where any bachelor's degree qualifies regardless of field, can weaken the specialty occupation argument during USCIS or consular review.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Tech Lead positions?
The E-3 is available only to Australian nationals, but that exclusivity works in your favor. There's no annual lottery, no cap, and you can apply any time of year. H-1B registrations enter a random selection process with roughly a one-in-four chance of selection. Tech Lead applicants who qualify for the E-3 don't face that uncertainty.
Can I change employers while working in the U.S. on an E-3 as a Tech Lead?
You can change employers, but the new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before returning to Australia or traveling internationally. Unlike H-1B portability rules, the E-3 doesn't allow you to start with a new employer on the strength of a pending petition alone.
