Smokeball is a global, community-driven company united by a love for the law and a mission to help small and midsize firms thrive. We’re passionate about what we do and our clients know it! If you’re looking for a company that truly cares about its clients and its people, you’re in the right place.
The Role
We are currently experiencing an incredible phase of growth which has significantly increased our pace of innovation. Reporting to our US President, this role oversees a talented, local team of marketers responsible for driving awareness, generating demand, and converting prospects into loyal customers through campaigns, content, and strategy.
The ideal candidate will possess a unique dual competency: the ability to articulate and execute a marketing strategy that drives immediate, measurable business growth, while also demonstrating creativity in long-term brand positioning campaigns. You will be responsible for hitting pipeline targets, successfully launching new AI products to market, and executing marquee events like our upcoming "Spark" conference.
This is a hybrid role with our office being in Chicago, IL. All Chicagoland employees are in the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Growth
- Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy that aligns with our ambitious growth objectives and rapid product innovation cycle.
- Own and drive our primary marketing KPI: the dollar value of marketing-qualified opportunities that complete sales demos.
- Balance short-term revenue generation tactics with one-to-three-year brand positioning initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with our global leadership, including the COO and Global Head of Marketing to ensure marketing strategies support overall business goals.
Essential Functions
- Lead the go-to-market strategy for new AI-driven products and features.
- Oversee the successful execution of major marketing initiatives, including our first marquee event, "Spark".
- Ensure clear communication of our product value propositions to existing customers and potential prospects.
- Oversee the creation of all marketing collateral, sales tools, and digital assets.
- Build reports and dashboards to provide visibility into marketing campaign results and measure campaign effectiveness including marketing metrics, lead acquisition, opportunity stages, pipeline contribution, and ROI.
- Manage the marketing budget and lead planning, forecasting, and reporting efforts.
Team Management and Culture
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a distributed marketing team of approximately 13 individuals, with a core group based in Chicago.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and caring team environment that aligns with our core values.
- Manage across time zones effectively, providing on-ground leadership for the US team while coordinating with our Australian headquarters.
- Spend your first 90 days listening, learning the legal tech domain, and building trust with the team before implementing major strategic shifts.
Required Qualifications
Experience and Skills
- Proven experience in a senior marketing leadership role, preferably within the B2B SaaS or technology sector. Legal technology experience is a bonus but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to drive measurable business growth through strategic marketing initiatives and pipeline generation.
- Strong portfolio of creative brand-level campaigns that successfully increased organizational awareness within a specific sector.
- Experience taking new products or features to market with clear, quantifiable results.
- Track record of successfully managing and developing a team of at least 5 direct reports.
- Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced and at times rapidly changing environment.
- Highly energetic and self-motivated with the ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize job responsibilities.
- 10+ years of marketing experience across a wide range of marketing functions.
- 5+ years leadership experience.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Vice President Of Marketing
Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Your Australian bachelor's degree qualifies, but a three-year degree may need a credentials evaluation letter confirming U.S. equivalency. Get this assessment before applying so employers don't stall the LCA filing over degree questions.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify companies that have filed LCAs for VP-level marketing roles. Prior filings signal the employer knows the E-3 process and won't treat your offer as a sponsorship experiment.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end. This matters at VP level because errors in the prevailing wage determination or specialty occupation justification can delay your start date.
Request employer-paid premium processing at offer stage
Negotiate for your employer to cover E-3 filing costs during offer negotiation, not after signing. At VP seniority, employers expect and are legally permitted to absorb government fees, and raising it early avoids awkward conversations once onboarding begins.
Prepare for consulate scrutiny on specialty occupation proof
Consular officers can question whether a VP of Marketing role genuinely requires a specific degree rather than general business experience. Bring the job description, your degree certificate, and a brief written explanation tying your marketing qualifications directly to the role's core responsibilities.

Find Vice President Of Marketing JobsVice President Of Marketing E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Vice President of Marketing jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for VP of Marketing roles where employers have E-3 sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with the visa. Filtering by sponsorship willingness at this seniority level saves significant time, since many executive postings don't explicitly advertise visa support even when the employer is open to it.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a VP of Marketing role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as marketing, business administration, or communications. The DOL and consular officer will look at whether the specific duties require that specialized degree, not just general business acumen. A well-drafted job description that connects degree requirements to role deliverables strengthens the case considerably.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for a VP of Marketing hire?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap, so your employer can file at any point in the year and receive a decision without waiting for an October 1 start date. For a VP-level hire where the employer has an urgent business need, this is a meaningful operational advantage. H-1B requires lottery registration in March with employment starting no earlier than October 1, introducing six or more months of uncertainty that most senior hiring timelines can't absorb.
Can I change employers or get promoted while on an E-3 visa?
You can change employers, but the new company must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa before starting work. An internal promotion that changes your job title and duties materially may also require an amended LCA. Plan the timing carefully since you cannot work for the new employer until the new authorization is in place, unlike some H-1B portability provisions.
