Engineering Intern Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering intern in Kansas?
You become an engineering intern in Kansas by enrolling in an ABET-accredited engineering program at a school like Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, or Wichita State University and applying to structured intern programs during your sophomore or junior year. Kansas does not require a state license for engineering interns, but working toward an Engineer-in-Training designation through the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions strengthens your candidacy with major employers.
Which companies hire engineering interns in Kansas?
Kansas engineering intern roles are posted by Kiewit Corporation, Garmin, and WSP and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Kansas's aerospace and energy sectors generate the most consistent intern demand, particularly in Wichita and the Kansas City metro.
Which Kansas cities have the most engineering intern jobs?
Lenexa, Overland Park, and Wichita have the most engineering intern openings in Kansas. Wichita leads because of its dense aerospace and manufacturing base anchored by major aviation employers, while Kansas City benefits from energy, civil, and consulting firms operating out of the metro's Kansas-side suburbs, and Topeka draws openings tied to state infrastructure and utility projects.
Are there remote engineering intern jobs in Kansas?
Yes, but they're rare. Most engineering intern roles require hands-on lab, plant, or field work that cannot be done remotely. About 28% of engineering intern openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those positions are concentrated in software-adjacent or data-heavy specialties like systems analysis and controls engineering rather than mechanical or civil disciplines.
How can I get hired as a engineering intern in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to structured university recruiting programs run by Kansas employers like Spirit AeroSystems, Evergy, and KDOT, which are designed specifically for students with no prior work history. Building a focused project portfolio from coursework, joining your school's engineering club or SAE chapter, and pursuing an Engineer-in-Training exam attempt through the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions all signal readiness to employers who value demonstrated initiative over prior internship experience.
Where can I find and apply to engineering intern jobs in Kansas?
You can find and apply to engineering intern jobs in Kansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Kansas openings. Search the listings, find the roles that fit your degree program and availability, and apply directly to the ones that match.
