Engineering Intern Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering intern in New York?
Becoming an engineering intern in New York starts with enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering program at a New York university or college. Most employers require completion of at least two years of coursework before an internship is considered. While a full Professional Engineer license is not required at the intern stage, students who plan to pursue licensure eventually should be aware that New York's State Education Department oversees PE licensure, and early documentation of supervised experience counts toward that requirement.
Which companies hire engineering interns in New York?
Employers hiring engineering interns in New York right now include Peloton Interactive, Betfair Interactive U.S., and City of New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of infrastructure, energy, and technology firms means intern openings appear across a wide range of engineering disciplines throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most engineering intern jobs?
New York, New York City, and Buffalo have the most engineering intern openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its dense concentration of engineering firms, utility companies, and construction projects, while Buffalo and Albany draw intern demand from manufacturing facilities, state infrastructure projects, and regional engineering offices that anchor those local economies.
Are there remote engineering intern jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 36% of engineering intern openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how hands-on the work tends to be. The roles most likely to offer any remote component are software-adjacent engineering positions, data analysis, or simulation work where physical access to equipment or job sites is not required.
How can I get hired as a engineering intern in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through university co-op programs partnered with New York employers, which are structured for students with no prior professional experience. Large employers like Con Edison, AECOM, and state agencies such as the New York State Department of Transportation run formal intern and co-op programs designed for students at the beginning of their studies. A strong academic record in core engineering courses, a completed personal or class project portfolio, and familiarity with standard software tools in your discipline give candidates a clear edge in competitive applicant pools.
Where can I find and apply to engineering intern jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to engineering intern jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your discipline and location, and apply directly to the listings that match what you're looking for.
