Finance Intern Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance intern in New York?
Most finance intern roles in New York require enrollment in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. New York does not require a state license for intern-level finance work, but completing coursework in financial modeling, accounting principles, and valuation is expected. Applying directly through firm recruiting portals during campus recruiting cycles, typically in the fall for the following summer, is the standard path at New York-based financial institutions.
Which companies hire finance interns in New York?
Employers hiring finance interns in New York right now include Bank of China USA, Goldman Sachs, and M&T Bank, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global bank headquarters, private equity firms, and asset managers means intern programs here tend to be large, structured, and highly competitive.
Which New York cities have the most finance intern jobs?
The cities with the most finance intern openings in New York are New York, Buffalo, and Queens. New York City dominates because it hosts the headquarters of major investment banks, asset managers, and financial exchanges, while suburban markets like White Plains reflect the back-office and corporate finance operations of large financial and insurance firms based in the metro area.
Are there remote finance intern jobs in New York?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical fields since many finance intern roles involve in-person desk rotations, team meetings, and trading floor exposure. About 30% of finance intern openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. The tasks most likely to be performed remotely are financial modeling, research writing, and data analysis assignments.
How can I get hired as a finance intern in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured summer analyst programs run by large New York institutions such as bulge-bracket banks, regional advisory firms, and asset managers that recruit candidates specifically with no prior finance internship experience. Completing a relevant finance or accounting course, building a simple discounted cash flow model as a portfolio piece, and connecting with professionals through university alumni networks in New York strengthens an application considerably. Corporate finance rotational programs at large New York-based companies in sectors like media and healthcare also offer structured entry points for candidates without prior experience.
Where can I find and apply to finance intern jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to finance intern jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly through the listings.
