Summer Associate Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a summer associate in New York?
Most summer associate roles in New York require active enrollment in a JD or MBA program at an accredited institution and recruitment through the employer's formal summer program process. Law firms hire through On-Campus Interviewing programs coordinated by law school career offices, typically targeting second-year JD students. Business school summer associates at finance and consulting firms are usually recruited during their first year of an MBA. A strong GPA, relevant coursework, and prior internship experience strengthen any application.
Which companies hire summer associates in New York?
Employers hiring summer associates in New York right now include University Settlement Society of New York, Schenectady City School District, and AHRC New York City, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global law firms, bulge-bracket investment banks, and top-tier consulting practices makes it one of the deepest markets in the country for structured summer associate programs.
Which New York cities have the most summer associate jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Schenectady have the most summer associate openings in New York. New York City dominates because it is home to the headquarters or primary U.S. offices of the largest law firms, investment banks, and management consulting practices, while White Plains and Albany draw openings from regional law firms, state government agencies, and corporate legal and finance departments that operate outside the city core.
Are there remote summer associate jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're relatively limited, since most summer associate programs are designed around in-office mentorship, deal exposure, and client interaction that require physical presence. About 10% of summer associate openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how selective firms are about distributed formats for these roles. Research, policy, and certain consulting project work are the sub-areas most likely to accommodate a hybrid arrangement.
How can I get hired as a summer associate in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through your law school or business school's on-campus recruiting program, which gives candidates without prior associate experience direct access to New York firms actively seeking first-time summer hires. Large New York employers like Cravath, Swaine and Moore and JPMorgan run structured programs built for students without professional experience in the field. Paralegal work, financial analyst roles, or legal clinic experience at a New York institution can serve as a lateral bridge, and a strong writing sample or modeling project strengthens candidates who lack a prior summer program on their resume.
Where can I find and apply to summer associate jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to summer associate jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your program year, practice area, and target employer type, and apply directly through each listing without needing to create a profile or sign up first.
