Summer Associate Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a summer associate in New York?
The standard path is enrollment in an accredited JD, MBA, or relevant graduate program followed by on-campus recruiting during your first or second year. Law summer associates in New York typically enter through law school recruiting cycles coordinated with the New York City Bar Association's guidelines. For finance and consulting roles, firms recruit heavily through graduate school career offices. A strong academic record, relevant coursework, and at least one prior internship substantially improve your chances at New York's most competitive programs.
Which companies hire summer associates in New York?
Employers hiring summer associates in New York right now include EY, Grant Thornton, and Pfizer, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's concentration of Am Law 100 firms, bulge-bracket investment banks, and global consulting offices makes it one of the deepest markets in the country for competitive summer associate programs.
Which New York cities have the most summer associate jobs?
New York have the most summer associate openings in New York. New York City accounts for the overwhelming share, driven by the density of major law firms, Wall Street institutions, and consulting headquarters in Midtown and Lower Manhattan, while Albany draws smaller but consistent demand from government affairs practices and state-focused legal work.

Yes, but they're rare. About 100% of summer associate openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that most programs are structured around in-person training, client exposure, and mentorship. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely are research, drafting, and analytical assignments, while court appearances, deal closings, and client meetings remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a summer associate in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying to structured first-year diversity or 1L associate programs that major New York law firms run specifically for candidates early in their JD. Firms like Cravath and Sullivan and Cromwell, along with investment banks such as JPMorgan, offer targeted programs for students with limited prior experience. Competing in moot court, law review, or a finance case competition at a New York area law or business school strengthens your application when work history is thin.
