Position

Reports to: Environmental Compliance Manager

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Environmental Compliance Manager with ensuring compliance with permits, including the Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) Permit.
• Coordinate and monitor the approval process with new clients and new waste streams.
• Maintain records on approved waste streams in an online database.
• Perform soil sampling for fields used for land application
• Identify new land for land application under the WPDES permit, obtain field site approval for DNR, and coordinate with farmers.
• Coordinate land application activities and hauling as assigned by the Environmental Compliance Manager.
• Assist Environmental Compliance Manager with reporting requirements for the company and its clients as needed.
• Ensure samples are handled appropriately and taken to the lab in an efficient and timely manner.
• Review, document, and invoice the monthly pH and chlorides for clients.
• Coordinate with subcontractor land application crews, including managing paperwork and reviewing invoices.
• Participate in the planning process regarding company process improvements applicable to the position.
• Communicate status updates on projects to ensure priorities are determined and met.
• Document and prepare written reports for appropriate personnel on upcoming, in-progress, and completed projects.

Essential Skill Set and Experience:

• Previous farming/agricultural operations including soils and/or land management.
• Working knowledge of techniques for planting and harvesting of crops and crop rotation.
• Knowledge of government agency programs and regulations related to farming and soils management. (i.e., FSA, WDNR, etc.)
• Proficient with computers and software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
• Working knowledge of GPS, GIS systems, and other mapping programs or ability to learn quickly.
• High energy level necessary to organize and manage multiple priorities with a demonstrated attention to detail and recordkeeping.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work with people in all aspects of the job; management, fellow employees, farming-related people, regulatory personnel, and the general public.
• Ability to act independently, demonstrating time management and efficiency.
• Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

Physical Demands and Environment:

The position is primarily in an office setting. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, the employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to operate a personal computer, calculator, photocopier, or other small objects/equipment in an office environment. Lifting up to 25 lbs. infrequently. Employee must be able to read printed material of varying font sizes, including correspondence and personal computer screen. Employee must be able to speak with vendors as needed in-person, via telephone and/or e-mail. Employee will be exposed to unpleasant odors and weather-related elements, as well as exposure to road and field hazards when operating company vehicles.
