Great Lakes Lifting Solutions (GLLS) is a growing, family-owned specialty equipment rental company serving the construction and glass/glazing industries. We specialize in unique lifting equipment including Smartlift glass manipulators, UNIC Spydercranes, Woods Powr-Grip vacuum lifting equipment, and related specialty lifting equipment.

We are looking for a dependable, mechanically inclined Equipment Technician to join our team.

This is not an assembly-line mechanic position. Our technicians work on a wide variety of specialized equipment and are expected to develop the ability to diagnose problems, make repairs, perform preventive maintenance, complete equipment inspections, and keep our rental fleet safe and ready for our customers.

What You'll Do

As an Equipment Technician, your responsibilities will include:

• Perform preventive maintenance and routine service on rental equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, engine, and vacuum-system problems.
• Repair equipment ranging from minor rental damage to major mechanical repairs and complete rebuilds.
• Perform engine replacements and component repairs as needed.
• Complete inbound and outbound equipment inspections.
• Identify damage, leaks, worn components, safety concerns, and maintenance needs.
• Test equipment after repairs to verify safe and proper operation.
• Maintain accurate service, repair, and inspection documentation.
• Learn manufacturer-specific inspection and maintenance requirements.
• Work toward certification to perform applicable annual Smartlift and Woods Powr-Grip inspections.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
• Assist with maintenance and minor repairs involving company trucks, trailers, and facilities when needed.
• Occasionally assist with equipment deliveries and pickups.
• Participate in required OSHA, equipment, manufacturer, safety, and compliance training.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is mechanically capable, dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to learn.

Experience with construction equipment, rental equipment, automotive, diesel, hydraulics, electrical systems, forklifts, cranes, aerial equipment, agricultural equipment, or similar machinery is a strong plus.

Ideal candidates will have:

• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment.
• Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to read service manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation.
• Ability to troubleshoot a problem instead of simply replacing parts.
• Attention to detail and commitment to completing repairs correctly.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team.
• Good communication and documentation skills.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to safely lift, climb, bend, kneel, and work around construction equipment.

Specialized experience with our equipment is NOT required. We can provide equipment-specific training to a mechanically experienced candidate who is willing to learn.

What Makes This Position Different

Our technicians don't work on the same machine performing the same repair every day.

One day you may be troubleshooting an electrical issue on a Smartlift. The next you may be diagnosing a hydraulic problem on a Spydercrane, repairing a vacuum lifting system, replacing an engine, completing an inspection, or rebuilding equipment that has returned from a jobsite.

We are looking for someone who enjoys figuring out how things work and solving problems.

Safety & Training

Safety is a major part of our operation. Technicians receive ongoing equipment-specific, OSHA, manufacturer, and company safety training.

Before independently servicing or inspecting equipment, technicians are expected to become familiar with applicable manufacturer manuals, operating procedures, inspection requirements, and safety systems.
