Estimator Jobs in Sacramento: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an estimator job in Sacramento?
Focus your search on Sacramento's active construction and infrastructure sectors, where general contractors, specialty subcontractors, and civil engineering firms hire the most estimators. The Downtown and West Sacramento commercial corridor, plus Elk Grove and Folsom for residential and commercial build-out, are the busiest hiring zones. Candidates with experience in cost databases like RSMeans and a background in takeoffs for commercial or heavy civil projects stand out in this market.
Which companies hire estimators in Sacramento?
Companies currently hiring estimators in Sacramento include Rosendin Electric, Caliber, and Cumming, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Sacramento's hiring base skews toward regional general contractors, civil infrastructure firms, and commercial real estate developers tied to the city's ongoing public works and mixed-use development pipeline.
Are there remote estimator jobs in Sacramento?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for estimators since the role often requires site visits, subcontractor meetings, and project walkthroughs. About 50% of estimator openings tied to Sacramento are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, primarily for desk-based quantity takeoff and bid preparation work. Preconstruction and plan review tasks are the most commonly performed remotely by Sacramento-based estimators.
How can I get an estimator job in Sacramento with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Sacramento is through assistant estimator or project engineer roles at mid-size general contractors and specialty subcontractors, where on-the-job training in takeoffs and bid assembly is common. Sacramento-area community colleges, including American River College, offer construction management coursework that local contractors recognize. Entry-level candidates who demonstrate proficiency with estimating software and show familiarity with Sacramento's permit and bid processes move into full estimator roles faster.
Which industries hire the most estimators in Sacramento?
Most estimator openings in Sacramento sit in Energy, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Sacramento's sustained investment in light rail expansion, state government facilities, and residential infill development keeps demand in those sectors consistently high for experienced estimators.
