Parts Clerk Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a parts clerk in California?
Most parts clerk positions in California require a high school diploma and on-the-job training, with no state-issued license specifically for the role. Employers commonly prefer candidates who have completed vocational or community college coursework in automotive technology, supply chain, or warehouse operations. California community colleges such as those in the Los Angeles and Sacramento systems offer relevant certificate programs. Familiarity with electronic parts catalogs and inventory software gives applicants a clear edge in the hiring process.
How much do parts clerks make in California?
Parts clerks in California earn a median of about $63,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,070 for the lowest 10% to over $95,400 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire parts clerks in California?
Employers hiring parts clerks in California right now include Clark Construction, MV Transportation, and Mueller Industries, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large concentration of automotive dealership groups, aerospace parts suppliers, and regional distribution centers makes it one of the more active states for this role year-round.
Which California cities have the most parts clerk jobs?
Los Angeles, Woodland, and Sacramento have the most parts clerk openings in California. Los Angeles and its surrounding Inland Empire corridors drive the bulk of demand through automotive dealerships and large parts distribution warehouses, while Sacramento's fleet-heavy government and commercial sectors and the Bay Area's industrial and aerospace suppliers account for significant hiring in those regions.
Are there remote parts clerk jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Parts clerk work is fundamentally hands-on, involving physical inventory counting, receiving shipments, and pulling stock, so most roles require an on-site presence. About 0% of parts clerk openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be limited to administrative or purchasing coordination functions within larger parts operations.
How can I get hired as a parts clerk in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to automotive dealership groups or parts distribution centers in California as a parts driver or stock clerk, since many large California dealership groups promote from within. AutoNation and Penske locations in Southern California and the Sacramento region regularly hire entry-level candidates and provide in-house product training. Completing a short automotive parts or supply chain certificate at a California community college and obtaining a forklift certification also make candidates competitive without prior parts-specific work history.
Where can I find and apply to parts clerk jobs in California?
You can find and apply to parts clerk jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search through the available roles, find one that fits your experience and location, and apply directly to the employer. No account creation is required to view or apply to listings.
