Estimator Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a estimator job in Boston?
The strongest path into Boston's estimating market runs through its active construction and commercial development scene, particularly the Seaport District, Fenway, and downtown redevelopment projects. General contractors, civil engineering firms, and specialty subcontractors in and around Boston hire estimators consistently. Candidates who can demonstrate proficiency in takeoff software, reading construction documents, and local subcontractor relationships tend to stand out in this market.
Which companies hire estimators in Boston?
Companies currently hiring estimators in Boston include STO Building, Suffolk Construction, and Jobot, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Boston's mix of large general contractors, engineering consultancies, and real estate development firms creates steady demand for estimating talent at multiple experience levels.
Are there remote estimator jobs in Boston?
Yes, though with limits: desk-based estimating roles such as preconstruction analysis and quantity takeoffs can often be done remotely, while site-dependent roles require a physical presence. About 36% of estimator openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the most remote-friendly positions concentrated in preconstruction and owner-side cost management teams.
How can I get a estimator job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Boston is a junior estimator or estimating coordinator role with a mid-size general contractor or specialty subcontractor working on the city's ongoing commercial and institutional construction projects. Boston-area firms regularly hire candidates with construction management or civil engineering degrees who can demonstrate basic takeoff skills. Familiarity with Boston's active development neighborhoods and a willingness to work on-site during preconstruction phases gives entry-level candidates a practical edge.
Which industries hire the most estimators in Boston?
The sectors hiring the most estimators in Boston are Staffing & Recruiting and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Boston's sustained commercial construction activity, major hospital and university expansion projects, and waterfront redevelopment in areas like the Seaport drive consistent local demand across these sectors.
