Manufacturing Supervisor Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a manufacturing supervisor in Massachusetts?
Most manufacturing supervisors in Massachusetts move into the role by combining a technical or operations degree with hands-on production floor experience. Massachusetts employers in regulated industries, including medical devices and defense, typically expect candidates to have direct experience with ISO or FDA quality systems before stepping into supervision. Earning credentials such as a Certified Manufacturing Technologist designation through SME or completing lean manufacturing coursework strengthens a candidacy significantly in this market.
How much do manufacturing supervisors make in Massachusetts?
Manufacturing supervisors in Massachusetts earn a median of about $79,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $52,530 for the lowest 10% to over $114,800 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire manufacturing supervisors in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring manufacturing supervisors in Massachusetts right now include Thermo Fisher Scientific, AbbVie, and Tech-Etch, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of defense contractors, medical device makers, and biotech manufacturers means that many of the largest and most consistent openings come from companies operating regulated, high-precision production environments.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most manufacturing supervisor jobs?
The cities with the most manufacturing supervisor openings in Massachusetts are Chelmsford, Plymouth, and Worcester. Greater Boston anchors demand through its dense cluster of life sciences and defense primes, while Worcester and Springfield serve as the state's traditional industrial hubs, with long-established precision manufacturing and aerospace supply chain operations that generate steady supervisory hiring.
Are there remote manufacturing supervisor jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. Manufacturing supervisor roles are fundamentally hands-on positions tied to a physical production floor, which limits remote options significantly. About 0% of manufacturing supervisor openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to involve oversight or coordination functions in multi-site or administrative capacities rather than direct floor supervision.
How can I get hired as a manufacturing supervisor in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a skilled production technician or team lead role into a supervisory position within the same facility. Large Massachusetts manufacturers in the medical device and defense sectors, including those in the Route 128 corridor and Worcester County, frequently promote from within or hire associate supervisors from adjacent roles such as quality inspector, shift coordinator, or production planner. Completing a certificate program in operations management or lean manufacturing at a Massachusetts community college adds a measurable credential that hiring managers in this market recognize.
Where can I find and apply to manufacturing supervisor jobs in Massachusetts?
