Manufacturing Supervisor Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a manufacturing supervisor in California?
Most manufacturing supervisors in California move into the role from lead technician, quality inspector, or production associate positions after building floor-level credibility. California does not require a state-issued license for manufacturing supervisors, but employers strongly favor candidates who have completed OSHA 30-hour general industry training, hold a Six Sigma or lean manufacturing certification, and have formal supervisory coursework through a California community college or an industry association such as SME or APICS.
How much do manufacturing supervisors make in California?
Manufacturing supervisors in California earn a median of about $76,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,530 for the lowest 10% to over $125,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire manufacturing supervisors in California?
Employers hiring manufacturing supervisors in California right now include Rtx Corporation, Atomic Machines, and Joby Aviation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of aerospace, defense, and food processing facilities means large, multi-shift operations drive a significant share of the open roles.
Which California cities have the most manufacturing supervisor jobs?
San Diego, Los Angeles, and Emeryville consistently post the most manufacturing supervisor openings in California. The Los Angeles Basin and the Inland Empire are anchored by aerospace, logistics, and consumer goods plants, while the Bay Area's openings skew toward semiconductor and biotech manufacturing where companies like Applied Materials and Genentech maintain large production operations.
Are there remote manufacturing supervisor jobs in California?
Yes, but they're rare. Manufacturing supervisors are fundamentally floor-present roles responsible for shift safety, line throughput, and direct personnel oversight, which cannot be performed remotely. About 1% of manufacturing supervisor openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those postings are almost always for planning-heavy or quality-systems coordination functions rather than direct production supervision.
How can I get hired as a manufacturing supervisor in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a production associate or lead technician role at a large California manufacturer, then a lateral move into a supervisor-in-training designation. Companies like Northrop Grumman, Genentech, and Nestlé run formal supervisor development programs that recruit internal candidates with fewer than two years of floor experience. Completing an OSHA 30-hour general industry course and earning a lean manufacturing certificate through a California community college significantly strengthens an application at this stage.
Where can I find and apply to manufacturing supervisor jobs in California?
You can find and apply to manufacturing supervisor jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search for roles that match your industry background, shift preference, and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
