Manufacturing Supervisor Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a manufacturing supervisor in Illinois?
Most Illinois employers expect a combination of post-secondary education and hands-on floor experience. A bachelor's or associate degree in manufacturing technology, industrial engineering, or operations management is the common educational foundation, though many Illinois facilities will promote experienced production workers into supervisor roles. Earning a Lean Six Sigma certification and completing an OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 course strengthens candidacy at most Illinois plants, which increasingly treat these credentials as practical prerequisites.
How much do manufacturing supervisors make in Illinois?
Manufacturing supervisors in Illinois earn a median of about $75,200 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,280 for the lowest 10% to over $103,410 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire manufacturing supervisors in Illinois?
Employers hiring manufacturing supervisors in Illinois right now include AbbVie, NOW HEALTH, and Destaco, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's concentration of food processing, pharmaceuticals, and heavy industrial manufacturing means demand runs across a wide range of facility types and production environments throughout the state.
Which Illinois cities have the most manufacturing supervisor jobs?
North Chicago, Peoria, and Wheeling account for the highest number of manufacturing supervisor openings in Illinois. The Chicago metro drives volume through its dense cluster of food and beverage, logistics, and automotive supply chain facilities, while Rockford's longstanding aerospace and machined components sector and Joliet's expanding warehousing and industrial corridor sustain steady demand outside the city.
Are there remote manufacturing supervisor jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they're rare. Manufacturing supervisor work is fundamentally hands-on and floor-based, so fully remote positions are the exception rather than the rule. About 0% of manufacturing supervisor openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and the roles that qualify tend to involve multi-site coordination, production scheduling, or quality auditing work that can be completed off-site for part of the week.
How can I get hired as a manufacturing supervisor in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is moving into a team lead or shift lead role at an Illinois production facility, which typically requires only one to two years on the floor. Large Illinois manufacturers like those in the Joliet industrial corridor and the Chicago northwest suburban manufacturing belt regularly hire production associates and machine operators who they develop into supervisory roles. Completing an OSHA-10 course and earning a Lean Yellow Belt credential signals readiness and accelerates consideration for internal promotions at Illinois plants.
Where can I find and apply to manufacturing supervisor jobs in Illinois?
