Senior Level Finance Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level finance director job?
Candidates who land senior level finance director roles typically bring a combination of demonstrated P&L ownership, experience leading finance teams through complex cycles, and the ability to translate financial data into executive-level strategy. Credentials like a CPA, CFA, or an MBA strengthen a candidacy, but employers at this level weight your record of influencing business decisions and building high-performing teams just as heavily as formal qualifications.
Which companies hire senior level finance directors?
Companies hiring senior level finance directors right now include Jobot, Fitch Ratings, and Avis Budget, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Hiring at this level covers large enterprises managing multi-division budgets, private equity-backed portfolio companies, and growth-stage organizations building out a formal finance function for the first time.
Are there remote senior level finance director jobs?
Yes, though many organizations prefer hybrid arrangements for roles with this level of executive exposure. About 35% of senior level finance director openings are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting demand from companies willing to access top financial leadership outside their immediate geography. Fully remote positions tend to appear more often at technology firms and distributed organizations.
What makes a finance director role senior level?
A senior level finance director role is defined by scope and ownership rather than task execution. You are setting financial strategy, not just reporting on it, overseeing multiple functions such as FP&A, accounting, treasury, or tax, and advising the CEO or board on capital decisions. Mentoring junior finance professionals and owning outcomes through business cycles, audits, and fundraising rounds are core expectations at this stage.
Which industries hire the most senior level finance directors?
Senior Level finance director roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. These sectors tend to drive demand because they operate at a scale and regulatory complexity that requires dedicated senior financial leadership to manage reporting requirements, investor relations, and strategic planning simultaneously.
