Financial Officer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a financial officer job in New York?
Target the sectors that drive the most hiring in New York: banking, asset management, insurance, and private equity, which cluster in Midtown and the Financial District. Candidates who stand out typically combine a CPA or CFA designation with experience in financial reporting, treasury, or compliance. Networking through New York-based finance associations and targeting firms in Hudson Yards and Lower Manhattan gives you a concrete geographic edge.
Which companies hire financial officers in New York?
Employers hiring financial officers in New York right now include Allied Universal, CareSource, and BBVA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's market draws a wide range of employers, from global investment banks and insurance carriers to mid-size asset managers and corporate headquarters with significant finance functions.
Are there remote financial officer jobs in New York?
Yes, though with limits: financial officer roles that involve treasury oversight, board reporting, or hands-on audit work tend to require in-office presence, while FP&A and financial analysis functions skew more remote-friendly. About 43% of financial officer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. Hybrid arrangements are most common at corporate headquarters and fintech firms based in Midtown.
How can I get a financial officer job in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in New York is through a staff accountant or financial analyst role at a mid-size firm or regional bank, then moving into an officer-level title after two to three years. New York's large nonprofit sector, including hospitals and cultural institutions, often hires junior financial professionals who can advance quickly. A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and exposure to ERP systems like SAP or Oracle makes candidates competitive at that starting level.
